Hope JAR doesn't get on here and read this thread. IMO ppl seem to be forgetting all the years good service he's given us. So his form dipped a little this year - does that mean we sell him? In that case Stevie and Xabi might as well get sold as well.......

Spending £5m on Taylor to replace JAR is simply throwing money away. They are both good players but is Taylor £5m better than JAR? No.

If this is true and he were to sign I don't think that would be the end of Riise, more like Aurelio.

Rafa loves his squad rotation, and I think he'd like to be able to rotate players without feeling that he has weakened it at all.

I would have no problem with Taylor joining, especially if it means Aurelio leaving.

It's a little different signing a player like that when you already have quality in that position.

When you have Essien, Mikel, Makelele(maybe not next season), Lampard, Diarra and Ballack I think it makes signing a back up player like Sidwell a little different. i.e when you don't have the quality in the starting 11 to start with why but more average back up? i.e if Chelsea's starters were as good as Steve Sidwell and then tehy buy Steve Sidwell if you catch my drift.

Yes he can defend as well as score 2 blinders a season.

Taylor is a good player, intelligent and with a good eye for goal. Add in the fact he's 'premiership ready' then i really don't see why people are getting so upset.

Another point is we've been linked to him two or three times in the past and he's never signed so a tad early for the knives to be drawn lads eh?

Are people forgetting he can play left midfield as well? Could be a backup for Kewell if he doesn't regain his fitness.

Right then. Exactly how many times have people seen Matt Taylor play? Portsmouth are hardly ever on the box - and they're not one of the big teams that gets plenty of airtime. So how come everybody's so goddamed clued up on Matt Taylor all of a sudden? It's because he scores the occasional 'blinder' as you put it - which JAR never does, does he?

It wasn't that long ago that he wasn't even making the Portsmouth team you know - and all of a sudden he's good enough to be first choice for us. Work that out.

chelsea got him to improve their squad not their starting 11.

Doubt this story is true and if it is true then we aint never going to improve!

I hope to god we just spend money on the areas we most need to improve on (up front and our wingers)

we have plenty of players that can fill in at left back, and this guy is no way good enough to play left midfield.

BUT he can score a good goal or two

Why the hell would we need another Riise?

I dont quite understand all this J.A.R bashing when he has been an important part of the premierships most consistent and best defence for the past 5 years, for ****s sakes its not our defence we need to improve on, and whats to say the new l.b whoever that may be doesnt have a **** season or doesnt gel with the other defenders?! ****ing leave the defence well and truly alone and concentrate further up the park.
Also maybe J.A.R will perform better once he actually has someone decent in front of him!!!!

What rubbish. How dare some of you. Riise is awesome at times. He might not be the best defender week in week out but when the big games come about he is afraid of no-one and scores some vital goals for us

Riise is a brilliant player to have around, id love to see him playing more at Left Mid
