Haha, is ickle Dirky Wirky your favouwite, Les?
[QUOTE]
Actually he's not. I don't have a favourite.
For me - anybody who works as hard for the cause as DK does - should be above criticism. For sure
his touch is sometimes poor but if you consider he was adjusting to a new league, and a new position (2nd striker) and still managed to make a good contribution then I believe he did well - and will do even better next season.
All this don't forget - whilst his father was seriously ill.
Dunno what all the fuss is about.Liverpool born and bred.

Don't get me wrong, Les, I likes him. I likes him a lot. As you say, it's impossible not to like someone with such infectious enthusiasm. He wears the Liver Bird with real pride and it's impossible not to admire. Not only that, he seems like a great bloke and appears to be very popular within the squad. The importance of things like this is nearly always overlooked.
He did quite well for a first season, but if he has another season like his first, I think he'll have to be moved on - but I expect him to improve and I think he will. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I think this thread should be locked here and now to prove to the doubters that Est. can actually do serious, reasonable, mature threads.

Seriously though it's not worth creating a new forum for just one thread.Originally posted by dww View PostCan we have a new forum for sensible debates with a reasonable conclusion?.
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

He's not the most naturally gifted front man and lacks a turn of foot, but his work ethic is fantastic and he isn't one to hide - unlike some so-called "top class" strikers.
I think he'd have scored many more goals if he and Crouch had started regularly as a striking duo. Their stats together of 12 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats from 15 starts shows they did work well and Kuyt seemed to feed off Crouch better than the other strikers we had. But 15 starts is like 1 in 4 matches which is pretty low.

I think Kuyt (& also Crouchy) would benefit greatly from having someone with a bit of unpredicable flair, pace & instinct next to them. Not only would this give Kuyt someone to feed, it would also allow the other striker a much greater amount of space.
I think Kuyt's good enough to be in a PL winning team due to all of the positive points discussed above- it is just that we need someone who's a little bit special alongside him.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I think this is the crux of the argumentOriginally posted by RPAS View Post
The difference between us and Chelsea last season was Drogba. The difference between everyone else and Utd was Ronaldo. We should be comparing our playing staff to this level. They get paid the same as these guys; get treated as well etc etc.
Kuyt will stay and good luck to the lad but we are going to challenge for the EPL this season he needs to up his game considerably in my view. He should be our Drogba - the man all our oppenents fear - he isn't - that in itself is worrying.
Drogba was on the same level if not poorer in his first season than Kuyt has been in his, and if he improves anywhere near the level Dogbreath has, i'll be very happy indeedI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet
