How many of those goals were in the premiership?

Didn't he start more games than any of our other strikers though?

I'll give him another season to settle in before judging him completely.

Well I like him and can see him being an important player for us next year.

The problem is we Liverpool fans have been spoilt with awesome strikers, Rush, Aldridge, Fowler - these guys banged in 30+ goals a season and when we compare our current crop against them they will never measure up.

Kuyt works really hard, has scored some good goals and i would say he is a typical Rafa player - a team player.

We must remember this was his 1st season with us and he joined pretty late so he got no LFC pre season, he has scored goals in the past which shows he has some pedigree and he is highly thought off by the Dutch too, why else does he get in to the team ahead of Huntelaar and co? Dogbreath when he 1st joined wasn't too hot either but has improved vastly and i say lets give Kuyt a chance to prove himself.
            We come not to play.

[QUOTE=ShaggyAlonso;521793]Really? All I get is stick.

"What does he do apart from run around a lot?"

And that's about the lot of it. I wasn't overly excited about his signing, always thought we signed the wrong Dutchman but his work rate is immense so i'll give him this season to convince me and i think he will. He needs a Michael Owen along side him - a partnership of a lotta goals!!

Sorry Les,I'll try not bash Kuyt but I'll be as honest as I can.

I made a quip, yes a quip about Kuyt not scoring goals in a thread earlier this week and some guy jumped on it and replied saying that he was the 10th top scorer in the EPL.(Kuyt not him!)

That for me says it all,he doesn't score enough goals and LFC should not be happy with the 10th top scorer in the league.

We need someone who's hitting the net regularly in the league and cups.
I will concede that his work rate is fantastic and his attitude appears to be spot on.

As I said I don't want to be Kuyt bashing as I do like him as a player and he seems like a great lad to have in the team/dressing room etc...
(Anyone who's seen the youtube video of him singing can see he's great craic)

I really hope we see the best of him next season and he proves all us doubters wrong,I'll gladly be the 1st to admit I was wrong.

If he's a link man as you say then surely we should compare him to link men at our rivals for the EPL & in Europe? or to players in that position in the past? "Link" men are the guys to unlock defences; create space etc.

Can he compare to Rooney? Kaka? Beardsley? Dalglish? We've become too complacent at Anfield - it has stemmed from the years of crap spouted from Houllier - about "hard workers" ... "players needing seasons to adjust" ... this guy is on huge money ... we paid big money to his club for him. I'm not doubting his workrate or the fact that he really wants to play for LFC. What I am questioning is his ability to be the missing player that turns us from 3/4 place in the EPL into genuine title contenders.

The difference between us and Chelsea last season was Drogba. The difference between everyone else and Utd was Ronaldo. We should be comparing our playing staff to this level. They get paid the same as these guys; get treated as well etc etc.

Yes, the guy may come good this year and I sincerely hope he does as Rafa seems to give him twice the playing time of any other player in his position.

I was in Athens at the game and no one will convince me that Crouch didn't (a) deserve to start & (b) would have given far, far more in the game than Kuyt.

Now, Crouchie is not the most gifted player in the world and the fact that I'd have him in starting ahead of Kuyt every time says a lot about what I think Kuyt is giving us at the moment. Kaka said they feared Crouch; as did Gattuso - did anyone say they feared Kuyt? Didn't think so.

Kuyt will stay and good luck to the lad but we are going to challenge for the EPL this season he needs to up his game considerably in my view. He should be our Drogba - the man all our oppenents fear - he isn't - that in itself is worrying.

Someone said before we signed the wrong man & I couldn't agree more. If we were going Dutch it should have been for Huntelaar. He's going to be the next Van Basten.

Very harsh in my opinion. Like most others have said, a new team and a new country also not really playing as an out and out striker . He showed glimpses and I think he can make the grade. Not a bad return of goals all things considered.

If we do sign Torres then I think we will se him pushed forward and really only then can we see if he can really cut it.

I don't understand for a second why Kuyt was/is being used as a link-man. He is almost completely bereft of skill and technical ability, and as for his first-touch...

                          Do you? Why? Torres isn't a link-man.

I don't agree with this. If we sign Torres then Kuyt will still do the hard work so Torres will get the space he needs.

It would be different if we signed another hard working striker like Tevez.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Maybe it's because Berbatov just appears to have a bit more about him.
