So clearly he is not into being educated!
But you don't see that Fredo and anyone else have to be receptive to the message at the time that they read it. Maybe he is more open to suggestion when we put him in the picture by taking the time to inform him via emails or MSN.

He's from Maritius FFS, he speaks french and then english, have you seen his posts?
He's not that bright to understand the nuances!!

Give him a break,he didn't mean it,I'm sure of that.

I've no problem with him. I don't even know the guy. But it's guaranteed that you'll get a lot of backs up if you're so cavalier about a sensitive topic. I hope it can all be resolved for him, though.

People jumped on Fredo without giving him a fair chance to clarify or explain his comments.

              Bang out of order IMO.

It was me who jumped down his throat and i will be ****ed if i take it back. He knew the ramifications of saying its time we moved on.
He is a stalwart of est was a stalwart of koptalk and this topic has been debated many many times, so i for one dont share your sentiment that he never knew any better. All said and done, i hope Fredo doesn't leave cos i happen to like him.

Yeah I agree but I'd say the lad knows now and won't be so silly again.

So you disagree with him. It's not like he was defending the rag itself.

I agree with you about not stopping the boycott but can it not even be talked about amongst ourselves?
                    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I completely understand what you're saying, certainly Fredo's been around these boards long enough to understand the sensitivities relating to that rag.

But is it possible that his words "time to move on" have been misinterpreted or taken out of context? He goes on to talk about younger reds not being aware of the issue - that doesn't necessarily say to me that he's saying we should forget the boycott, give up on the fight for justice etc.

Given that he's been around these boards for so long, I think he deserved the chance to explain himself before being hung, drawn and quartered.

Of course it can be talked about, but dismissively telling people to 'move on' is not a constructive examination of the issues, is it? I feel quite sorry for him now, as I bet he didn't mean to cause any offence, but there's a difference between a debate and what was said.

Do you really think so? To me it read as a starting-point, an opening argument in a debate, not a line in the sand. I really don't read it as him "telling people to move on" and I certainly didn't see it as "dismissive" at all.

I think there are people better qualified than me to opine on the subject itself. However, I do think it's reasonable to cut people a bit of slack - we do all support the same team after all.

This is exactly what I'm saying. To me Fredo's words seemed to be a thought/argument not fully expressed.

People took those three words at face value without giving him an opportunity to fully explain and I think he deserved better.

Ditto for me, re: the point in bold. I was very young at the time. There's only one person who can clarify what he meant by it. I would certainly welcome a debate and I wouldn't personally jump on anyone who wanted to discuss it, but people who hold the opposite view have to be very aware of how they present it. That's all.
