Thankfully you don't pick the team. Benitez clearly doesn't want to play him at left-back anymore. Doesn't trust him.

In his prematch interview Mourinho said he put Essien there because of Riise's aerial threat and that we use him as a get out ball all the timeOriginally posted by Nic83 View PostYou mean his hair?
I've always thought he was a superb player and yesterday he even looked to have acquired and extra bit of pace. Fantastic asset. So much so that Mourinho had to change his game plan just for Riise, putting Essien at right back.
I thought Riise was competitive but to be honest we need more quality on the wings if we are to win the League

Riise
Anyone who doesn't rate this guy, go over to the nearest corner and slap yourself across the face 17 times and repeatedly shout Riise is the ****ing business while trying to touch your ear with your tongue.

I thought he played well, he is hoofing it a lot less and he crossed the ball well.
He defended well, battled hard.
His biggest problem is his lack of culture in front of goal, he has a blast and a, well blast.
When he scored the free kick against chelsea in the FA cup he did not blast the free kick, why doesn't he try that more often.
You cannot praise him when he puts in 30 yard blasters then slate him for trying one that goes wrong. No player in the world can hit the target from 30 yards everytime.
The volley from the great "ball never touched the floor" move from Gerrard and JP was a great effort.
As long as he picks his times to blast one he is a safer option on the left than Kewell, Aurellio or Babel. I thought he played OK.
You are being a bit harsh I think

In the long term, it has to be Babel, surely ?Originally posted by Ben Tover View PostIf Kewell isn't the option on the left, who can play there? Riise isn't the left winger we want. Either Rafa plays Babel there, buys someone or promote someone from the reserve side

Guest repliedSorry I thought you were comparing him to Giggs. Kewell had a purple patch for about half a season, that's in 4 yrs. He's always close to featuring.

Two seasons ago when he was on form and fit he was beating his man and with pace. His deliver was better than Riise and was much more attacking minded. Rafa has said Kewell isn't far from featuring this season.Originally posted by Red_Al_77 View PostExcept Giggs has pace, scores plenty of goals and has and still does beat his man. Kewell unfortunately has never been consistently good enough at Liverpool to even warrant such a comparison.
