I certainly respect him because he has made contribution to the club over the years, but I think his skills are average but he works hard and his left foot is out of this world.

I think he's a good squad player for the club but I certainly don't rate him as one of the better left backs in the world.

I don't think either of them are extremely good.

    It's a tricky one.

Sometimes his defending is pretty much crap ... But when we have a free-kick just outside the area ... Riise anyone? I know I would

Riise seems to me like he really needs confidence, in general and in terms of who he partners. Rafa's rotation is one thing but our left side has been a joke since Kewell ended the FA Cup winning season injured. Arbeloa + Riise is not ideal, I know people rate Arbeloa but I don't think his distribution is any better than Riise and, generally, doesn't offer more going forward.

Riise + Malouda would have been a fantastic left side for us. Instead we've got Babel, who I don't think looks a natural left-mid, and Yossi who is even more lightweight than King Luis.

Now there's someone who has done absolutely **** all for the last 18 months!! We won't against chelsea if he plays - you need 11 men to beat the top teams. This is one game where we can't afford to carry passengers!
You watch any football at all, mate, or is it all cricket and volleyball these days?

His ability to score vital goals cannot be understated. He has been and is still a match winner, not many fullbacks can add that to a team, so he may not be a tricky winger but a lot of the times his sheer zest is enough to muscle by players.

Rafa is looking at a more defensive minded left back, to give us another option, yet Riise provides us with an excellent solution all down the left flank. As for Shorey, Lescott and Bridge catch yourself on, if Riise was English he would a regular in the national team.
Would we be a poorer side without him? Shaggy has mentioned a few just from the Premiership. I am sure they would make our defence even more solid. Riise may be AVERAGE going forward but when defending he isn't strong enough to muscle out wingers, lapses in concentration, passes aren't accurate, make the odd Hollywood pass which is so wayward, his shots aren't even worth taking, he scores every 20 odd matches, his free kicks ALWAYS end up hitting the wall and he is ever so slow.
