@ Polo: Regarding the superstition, maybe I read between the lines too much, but the whole 'It's going to backfire on us!' sort of talk, in my opinion, could be rendered superstitious. They are only words Mascher used, there was hardly anything sinister about them, he talked his talk. Fair comments in my opinion and it will have little, if any, bearing on the outcome of the match on Sunday.
Yeah I can see that tbf. Pride before a fall etc.

Personally I think the comments were inadvisable from a psychological standpoint, Chelsea are unlikely to shrink away because of these kind of comments, they are confident in their own ability and mentally tough - it will only fuel them. That said, it's not really that big a deal. I read it in the paper, thought it was probably the wrong move, then thought no more of it until this thread. It's toward the end of the season that the mind games really come into play.

Exactly. Imagine if there was a boxer who come out and waffled on about how it might be a tough fight and he wasnt making any predictions and maybe a draw would do. He get ****in leathered in the ring, he'dve lost before its even started. If we mean business we need to act like it, and making light of Chelsea like they do of us is the way forward.

Why give them the ammo though? Within your own camp it's fine to say 'we're going to smash the *****' or whatever, but I'm not sure it does us any favours to let them know that's what we think - in the case of a mentally tough opponent it usually provokes a positive reaction on their part.

It was quite a normal assessment of the current situation. This however is just my subjective opinion and cannot be stated as fact. Agree to disagree And I don't think Mascher was being disrespectful, that might have warranted a claim such as 'They're an aweful team to watch, their football is very static and one-way, completely unlike us. That is why I believe they don't even need to turn up.' That, in my opinion would be disrespectful.

Never-to-mind, after we beat them on Sunday this comment will have been all but forgotten.

Edit: When they drubbed us 4-1 we weren't half the team we are now and they were on top form with hardly any injuries. Then was then, this is now and all that

Doesn't matter really, Sunday the talking will be done on the pitch as it would be even without Mascher's comments. I doubt his comments will have 'serious repercussions' as some seem to make it out.
Ok so it wasn't any kind of ****e but I really don't want us to lose our dignity. I know we can beat these ****s, the manager knows it and the players know it, we don't need to shout about it.
I would just hate us to start the type of ****e that Moaninhno has been known for, I like Rafa for his dignity and his clever wit is good enough to make a point without seeming like an arrogant ****.
By all means we should be confident and we should be fired up but again leave it for the pitch that's the Liverpool way so let's continue that way.

When did Rafa utter those comments? Mascher said what he said, and Rafa (as in that other thread) said what he said about Rotation. Let's not get the both confused and start using one for the basis of argument for the other.
I fully agree with you about Rafa keeping his dignity (which he does so marvellously in the grand comparison to, let's say, Whingeface Tosspot 'The better team was the one in blue') and he does keep his dignity unlike many other managers around. So he cannot be faulted for a potential one or two mistakes he made about us winning (such as the 4-1 drubbing) 2 years ago. I am sure he has learnt his lesson.

I think that a lot of people are making a mountain out of this molehill of a comment by Mascherano and as I mentioned before, after Sunday, no one will give two hoots about what Mascher said. Molehill -> Mountain. Must be this boring footie Saturday (and the ****ing RAIN!!! )

[SpiritualityModeOn]If you utter it, you are confirming it to the universe. With no doubt creeping into your mind whatsoever and not even entertaining the possibility of one's words being anything but the reality and true, you are manifesting your belief into reality and this in turn will rub off on all the other players to make sure this reality comes true. So all we can do now is thank Mascher for confirming and manifesting what we all know to be true anyway: That we will beat the *****! [/SpiritualityModeOff]

Morientes, Alonso, Garcia in the past have all come out and said stupid things to try and up the anti and it's backfired.

The only thing the squad should be concentrating on at the moment is preparing for the game. If Benitez feels mind games are needed let him deal with that.
