The following players are having to battle it out for a midfield position.

    Gerrard
    Alonso
    Riise
    Pennant
    Mascherano
    Sissoko
    Babel
    Benayoun
    Kewell
    Leiva
    Leto

That's a full team of 11. I can understand some getting a bit pissed off with warming the bench or sitting in the stands

Think it was Rafa who suggested that 7 should be allowed on the bench but 2 had to be products of your youth squad / academy - think that's a cracking idea.

If you're 2 or 3 up and coasting, what better than bringing on a couple of youths giving them much needed experience? With the strenght of the squad as it is, not a hope are we going to sacrifice one of our 4 outfield options on the bench in the hope we will be in a position to blood one of our youngsters

Some of them will probably leave in January or next summer. I still can't understand why we kept Sissoko. Will he start more than 10 games in the league this season? I doubt that.

        One of Benayoun and Pennant.

We don't need Riise when Aurelio is fit and Leto has adapted.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I don't think there's any reason to jump into conclusions. I think this is blown out of proportions.

it's not like a player doesn't know there's tough competion for places before he joins. the thing is, however, it's up to the player to respond to the challenge. it's not as if rafa picks them randomly it's based on their daily performances etc.. on the other hand though it's good to see that our players haven't joined for the money but to play and to be successful unlike it seems to be at some other clubs due south.

but to say yossi is twice the player pennant will ever be is a brave statement...

His passing is not up to scratch, his crossing is certainly not good enough.

Guess i just dont rate him
His final ball and his passing are some of the best in the league, thats why we signed him. His crossing isnt the best no, but ****inell lad, you seriously would sell a player in january before hes even had a chance to prove you wrong?

The thing that people forget is that at present, we are blessed in that we have only 2 injuries in Aurelio (who's nearly ready) and Kewell (who's only got a niggle). Ok, maybe Stevie too.
But as the season goes on, we're going to pick up injuries and suspensions and we could endure a period where we get screwed by having 7-8 players out at the same time.
So to say how many games any player will get is impossible. This is why we have a big squad, and this is where Rafa has a severe test of his man managemenet skills.

                  **Breaking News**

Benayoun's agent is concerned by the lack of mentions in EST1892's 'Best Looking Player' thread.

Ah but let's face facts, he's a bit of an ug.
                      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

What a load of cobblers this article and headline are. Not a single quote from the player, just the musings of an agent into a hypothetical situation, nothing more nothing less. Calm people, if its in the press its usually bull poo.

                                Should we drop him to.
Thats just silly.2 games into his Liverpool career of course we don't.Pennant had his chance last year and only marginally improved, still runs up blind alleys, hits poor crosses 70 percent of the time and is a petulant arsehole.Give Benny a chance there, is all I'm sayin, thats what we bought him for.
