It makes me laugh how you can accuse me last week of being arrogant yet you can come on this thread and belittle other peoples opinions because you don't agree with them. Posts like this hardly help with the discussion.Originally posted by Operation View PostThis has nothing to do with Hillsborough, just the self richeousness of some people who want to be seen as caring more. i was just about to post the same thing, its ridiculous to say people are more self righteous just because of a difference of opinionOriginally posted by Pacman View PostIt makes me laugh how you can accuse me last week of being arrogant yet you can come on this thread and belittle other peoples opinions because you don't agree with them. Couple of questions:
WTF is a "sister paper"?
Which paper is the daddy paper?
Isn't the HJC aimed at getting justice for Hillsbrough in so far as getting the authorities to admit their responsibility for the tragedy and therefore a seperate issue to the boycott?
Isn't the boycott there to support the feelings of the people who were lied about in the paper i.e. those who were there?
Couple of points:
Carra is a man of principle, we all know that. He has worked tirelessly to promote the city and the club off the field. On the field he has put himself on the line more often than any other player of this generation and has been largely responsible for many of our successes. I don't have a problem with him giving an interview to a journalist who doesn't work for the Sun, so long as it's not a negative article.
There are more things that unite us as fans of LFC, love of the club and hatred of the Sun and Michael Owen(
) being just some of them. We should concentrate on the things which unite us not something like this which does divide opinion.

It's not a grey area at all. Those that want to boycott the Sun with good reason. The News of the World is not the Sunday Sun, it's just part of the same group. By the same odd logic you follow, the Liverpool Echo is the evening Daily MirrorOriginally posted by anfieldanfield View PostUnbelievable really.
Of all the players in our squad.
Regardless of whether it's part of the 'official' boycot or not, it's an extremely grey area that is sure to upset and anger a fair chunk of our support. It's not like he needs the cash or anything.
The NOTW is The Sunday Sun.
Poor, really poor Carra.

I feel the debate clearly reveals it's a grey area and therefore it's impossible to come up with an objective answer. If the families were against the NOTW then I think there would be little or no argument to ignore their wishes. But that's not the case so it has to be an individual decision which we all make according to how we see things.
For me the decision is academic since I wouldn't read the News of the World for a number of reasons but it is uncomfortably close to The Sun as far as I'm concerned. However, I recognise it's not the same thing and I don't think my discomfort with the idea is a reasonable basis to attack anyone who sees things differently.
The idea that anyone who boycotts the News of the World MUST boycott Sky is equally untenable. We all have to draw the line where we feel is right for us - we may disagree about where that is but that doesn't mean someone is wrong for feeling differently about it.
IMO it would be a better world and a better forum if people were a little less quick to judge others with whom they disagree..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

He's only out of touch with the more feeble-minded on here. He's a grown lad and can do what he wants without consulting the Thought Police on hereOriginally posted by SpeedyG View PostSeems like Carra is out of touch with your rank and file scouser. Pity really. He should have known that no good would come of this.

One question for everyone who doesn't have a problem with the NOTW (and, for the record, I'm on your side.... certainly at least I don't hold any grudges against Bascombe and Carra) :
What do you think to their advertising of the s*n, both in the newspaper and on their website (and vice versa)?Quote of the year :
