No we didn't. Stop playing the giddy goat, fredo, you fool..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Well it's not fair if Yossi and Momo don't celebrate those days yet they have to come in on their special days (not so much the case with momo but deffo yossi, they might argue why can't they defer their days) it maybe brings parity through the squad but it's not nescesarily fair
I wouldn't have an objection to footy being played on Crimbo.
Why would millions object?
because it's a time to be with the family etc, i'd be pretty annoyed if a footy match was played on crimbo day, i certainly wouldn't be going and more than likely wouldn't catch it on the telly either. I'm sure there would be plenty of half filled grounds, and plenty of arguments between familys etc.
Should we stop playing football through Lent aswell as this is a period of asbtinence for many and many go on serious fasts at this time.
What if those who do fast on those specially observed days accounts for more than half our squad.
If that was the case then i'm sure our team wouldn't just be an isolated incident and there would be something done about it, much like easter sunday
So lets take this to another level let's just hypothetically say Carra, Stevie, Torres and Alonso all become religious fanatics and they refuse to play any Sunday games, also they refuse to play on any Holy days etc etc is that acceptable.
Ok so hypothehtically speaking if they were already heavily religious and fasted every Sun as part of their religion and on Holy days is it acceptable they don't play on these occassions. NO it's bloody well not is the answer no special exceptions to the club the league the FA to rearrange the world to suit them.
You're taking it to extremes that don't generally exist tho, look at it this way, i'm sure no football takes place in predominantly jewish countries on this day, and as such they cater to their own. Much like we do with crimbo, easter etc. However i'm not aware of any countries that avoid football through lent. If we want to attract the best footballers in the world then we need to cater to all types, and like has been mentioned already i'm sure he didn;t just spring it on rafa on friday.
Also Yossi would've had to have refused based on the fact that he couldn't wear leather footware or bathe on Saturday either causing a health and hygiene issue to start with apart form the fact that playing with no boots would've crippled him.
Okay well maybe that is the case, maybe he might have tried a compromise to alow him play, maybe non leather boots, doubt the washing bit would be too much of an issue. But regardless of that, even if he did say to rafa he couldn't play and rafa was previously aware of this fact then i don't see it a problem, i doubt any squad members are going to complain, i certainly wouldn't.
I too have enjoyed the debate, but it's obvious we see things from very different sidesOriginally posted by redblood View PostAs I've said mate and I've enjoyed this debate but I'm interested in fairness to all and it's how I treat my staff and no matter how fair you try to be someone else always believes they are being ****ed so it's much easier if there is a common rule for all and every one gets treated the same way.
BTW I've made the mistakes of treating some different and it has come back to bite me in the arse on more than one occassion.
So I don't believe that it's possible.Thomas Hicks Senior

If you ask me, they should ban all this religious bollocks in top flight football. They get paid really, really well, so until they're still receiving their fat paychecks, they shouldn't be allowed to leave training or be unavailable for selection due to religous stuff.
And yes, I'm an atheist

WTF?? So if you're earning loads of money you shouldn't be allowed to practice your religion? What a load of old codswallop!
As an employer you cannot treat everybody the same. I'd be ****ed if my boss treated me exactly the same as everyone else in my team. My circumstances mean I have different needs than them and my boss recognises that. Same as others have their needs. Yes, you have to treat people fairly and as equals but you still have to treat people as individuals too because what may work for one person might not work for another. Any employer worth their salt would recognise that. I really don't see what peoples problems with this are. It is part of his religion and religion is a huge part of some peoples lives. It was one day of the year for gods sake. I'm sure we can all cope. If Rafa can then so can we.RAFA! RAFAEL! RAFA! RAFAEL! RAFA! RAFAEL! RAFAEL BENITEZ!

Didn't mean to offend you in any way, but I just have problems with religions as I find them the route of all evil (though, religion itself isn't harmful, but the fanatics are). Maybe this is because I was raised in the communist country, where religions were banned (well not entirely banned) as most of the religious people around here were colaborators during WW2 and teamed-up with nazis and fascists against partisans. But this is the story for some other time perhaps.Originally posted by Red_hot View PostWTF?? So if you're earning loads of money you shouldn't be allowed to practice your religion? I know it was just one day and nobody makes a fuss about it (or shouldn't) and to be fair, I really don't have a problem with it. It was just a moment of complete anger, but it's okay now
Again, sorry if I offended you or anything
