I'm not asking him to give up his beliefs and I do respect peoples beliefs but I don't see why they should be given special treatment.
If people don't want to be treated differently in a bad way then they shouldn't expect to be given special treatment in a good way.
I would not allow somebody special treatment becasue of their beliefs if they work for me then they get treated the same as everyone else race creed or colour.

How would you feel if your working place forced you to stay in the office during Liverpool's Champions' League final, hindering your commitment to the club you love and follow?

Why is that okay but commitment to religion isn't okay?
I actually don't think that is okay either.

Special treatment for each person IS treating people equally, can't you see that?

If someone who applies for a job mentions his commitments outside of work and the boss hires him knowing that, he should respect them whatever they are. It's not just about religion.

I would have no case to argue. I'll be reacting like a professional and be honoring my commitments vis a vis my employer.

Still, it's a weak comparison mate.

That's exactly what religion does. It brainwashes people from an early age. All religion is a hurtful, controlling force. Ask Catholic believers about the guilt forced upon them by the priests they trust.

Religion affects evryone (directly or indirectly - 9/11 or 7/7 victims perhaps?)and has the potential to destroy everything, so while admitting to being a complete tree hugging hippie when it comes to my views, I will not give religion or anyone who defends it a minutes peace.

The man with his finger on more than enough nuclear weapons to "shock and awe" God himself, believes he was put there by The Lord our Saviour, the one, the only................Jehovah/Jaweh/Allah or just plain old God - the supernatural author with some interesting and favourable views on Genocide, Rape and Slavery.

**** happens mate some people work outside office hours and it is not always possible to allow people to do what they want.
If you work in a particular environment that prevents you from doing certain things then tough **** you have to live with it that's your choice to be there.
It's not the clubs fault, if they didn't sign him because he was Jewish there would be up roar and rightly so.
Religion should not determine your ability to work or not work.
