I'm not sure why people feel being a professional footballer should over ride peoples belief systems. Clubs buy players knowing full well that they will have a life outside football and the impact this may have, religious festivals are predictable and so have to be planned for by the club. Other workplaces manage to work round/adapt to religious constrictions football has to be the same.
I disagree mate he is a pro fooballer required to work 1-2 days a week in reality and should, if not injured or for a family breavement, be available to work at all other times.
Same can be said of all work places no special exceptions.

don't recall seeing him whining, i'm sure it will have been noted when he signed about his religion and that he may not be able to play on this day. i don't if it's date specific, but if it is then it's very rarely going to clash with a match so it might not even be a problem for the rest of his contract, it's not like we desperately need him is it

to be honest, i dont see it as a problem, the lad has probably gotten used to it over the years. i dont know if he can take fluids, obviously Momo cant, but if Yossi can take fluids then it wont be a problem to fast for 25 hours.

probably not, the tone of the article suggests it's up to Rafa, not that Yossi has said he won't play, but even if it was in his religion that he shouldn't play on that day, then i still don't see a problem, it's only one day a year, and as long as the club are aware of it before he signs then what's the problem?

Ive read the article, and if he plays I wont have a problem. Im starting to get fed up with stories coming from his camp now though. He should tell his agent to shut the **** up if he wants to stay in favour with the fans.

No but by fasting he has put himself in a situation where he is unlikely to be picked and he would know this.
He gets a chance for maybe 6-7 years at top flight football he can be religious all he wants when he's finished playing.

strangely I kinda agree, but then again Momo fasts every year and he does it for a month and does not seem to be affected by it

yeah? try telling that the millions of jews around the world who'll be doing exactly the same as Yossi, just don't get the issue here at all. I'm sure it's not like he walked up to rafa yesterday and said oh i'm fasting tonight so i might not be at my best tomorow. Rafa can play him if he wants he just might not be up to top level, would he have played anyway? i'm sure he'll be okay to come off the bench if needed.

Do those millions of Jews pay his wages because when they do he can have the day off.
He has made a decision to fast and knowing how Rafa treats players preparation, Rafa would not consider this good preparation for a physical game against the Brum therefore practically excluding himself from the team.
My problem is that everybody should be treated the same and no exceptions should be made on Religious grounds.
That's his belief but it doesn't mean he should get special treatment for it.

well i think you're wrong, but it seems we're going to have differing opinions on this so might as well just leave it there

By the rules of International law as regards to Employment, he should regard his job as the most important thing. Religion should be practiced at home.

Fair enough mate I just don't believe Religion should be given priority.

Got a link to this "international law"?
