It's not like Scottish keepers haven't had more than a few comedy capers.Originally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostThe goalie for Zambia V Scotland 1974. Pure comedy gold..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Yes, I do remember.
It's interesting though. I can only think that goalkeeper must be a very technical position these days. I see absolutely no reason why black goalkeepers should be intrinsically worse than white ones. The only explanations that make sense to me are cultural and to do with coaching.
Obviously in this country it's not the lack of coaching. However, the '74 Zaire team is probably a perfect example of that. After all, one of them didn't even know they had to wait for the opponents to take a free kick after the whistle had gone. We don't see that level of naivete now. I'm sure in time there'll be plenty of top class black goalkeepers..
