Personally I simply think it's symptomatic of youth today (whether Scouse, cockney or bristolians) not giving a **** for other people and more often than not looking for fights.

Even the scum derby has gone from 'heated but not much trouble' to '****/coins/mobile phone throwing, need a small army of police to stop a riot'.

Thats because every ****er is pissed though and been on the ale since 11 cos of the early kick off. Besides its normally people who stay over who are still out in town in their scarfs and shirts that get ****ed over. I avoid town like the plague on derby day but I went there on the night of the last one. Mathew Street had the biggest brawl Id everr seen.

I disagree Disco. If anything football holiganism was far worse several years ago. I do believe it's back on the rise again after arelatively peaceful 90's but it's nowhere near what it used to be.

As for playing the Mancs, I disagree again. It is the one match every season where there's guaranteed trouble. It's always been that way. I hate the scum more than any side ever...it's always been that way for me and always will be. They despise us as well, in fact they're obsessed with hating us which is always a recipe for trouble.

NOT at the Everton games though. (and if it was it was way away from the stadia and isolated)

As for Man U, perhaps I'm downplaying the past but given it's the most heavily policed game in the country nowadays, the police obviously fear trouble more than they used to

I think the spitefulness has a lot to do with the rise of the number of out of town-ers.

My thinking is that, its never been all happiness and light, but when it was all scousers, people knew people, they got on in work and out of work. they'd go the game together as they were mates outside of football. Thats not the case anymore. The people going the game now are not mates with Blues everyday, dont have blues in their family etc and as a result of this they just see Everton as 'the enemy' as they havent known blues as anything else. Everton are our city rivals and thats it. But to scousers, Evertonians are your brother, your old fella, the bloke next door etc and it is this that has started the hatred.
One of my best friends is a bluenose. I really cant say I hate them and he dont hate us. And we're from Norway. Dont think what you're saying is the answere, mate. I HATE the scum and Chelski!
No small toffees for feast tonight
                      Kopites party with tyrkish delight
                      José, Sir Alex... London press
                      All choking on sweet success
Money, not love, is your drive
                      But tell us...
                      Can you count to five?

They dont know the history of the derby tho, they see it as just a rivally, they havent grown up with evertonians so they come to derby games just as fans and see Everton solely as the enemy. The rise of these has angered Evertonians because once were they would have banter with their red mates, now they cant as the blokes gong the game arent their mates, they are blokes from Wigan, London, and god knows where. That is bound to cause a degree of hatred. Were once they had banter they now have nothing so the feeling of, 'they arent like us' or whatever is bound to take over. Im wafflin now.

Fair enough, must be some truth in that

That doesn't mean it's the OOT-ers 'fault' though specifically for the extra violence/abuse - it's more that they're one of the 'causes'

Yeah, its more a cause than a fault.
