What are you going on about.

The premier league is the same as the old first division which we won 18 times. Just because it had a name change doesn't make it any better or worse from the league we've won more than anyone else.

It's a typical Manc response 'You may have won the league 18 times but you've never won the premier league' So what isn't it just the same competition but it's now got a fancy name?

Haha. I was gonna say. We’ve won it 18 ****ing times. We just haven’t won it since they changed the name.

Plenty of people have agreed Wenger is an excellent manager. It's a question of how fallible he is.

As for comments on Arsenal fans, I know plenty. Some are objectionable when talking about football in a way they weren't a few years ago. Oh, and they tend not to give credit to Benitez either.

        Capito?
I don't understand your first paragraph. As for your last one - I agree. But, how can we complain about not getting deserved credit when this thread shows that some LFC fans are just as touchy when it comes to praising other managers? What I'm saying is: we need more of this sort of praise or others (when worthy), not less. The slagging off of other teams (or refusing to credit them) is part of the Mourinhoisation of football. The Liverpool way is clapping the away goalie. Long may it continue.

To be fair it does highlight how long we haven't won the highest domestic league title for, which was his original point (although he expressed it in Sky speak which was unfortunate).

I'm not sure why I'm not allowed to find any group of people objectionable because of this fact though.

I think almost everyone in this thread has “clapped the away goalie”, so to speak. Some of us have clapped him but added that he is not an infallible supermanager.

The point is that many LFC fans think we are great right now. I don't, and won't until we win what used to be our bread and butter. I used to watch Rush and Dalglish. I know what great is. And by the way - if a Manc says something, does that automatically make it wrong??

My first paragraph is about the fact you referred to a comment I made and then lumped it in with lots of other comments I didn't make. I also don't go on about how we're the best and am happy to credit big teams who win things and little teams who play well.

I see where you're coming from more clearly now although I think the opening poster got Wenger's achievements slightly out of perspective and I agree with you about the Liverpool way.

                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

He has now a masive transfer kitty, plus new backers coming in. Benitez has just tried to fill holes with the likes of crouch, pennant, Kuty, Voronin, (free), bellamy. And Wenger still has a better balanced team without spending big.........

remind me, how mant times has wenger won the champions league?

What about pre Istanbul? So our 4 European cups didn't count until 2005 because we hadn't won the champions league? At the end of the day our fans are a lot more respectful than anyone else's. Henry last season when he got subbed got applauded off. I was at a Chelsea game when Desially(sp) got sent off but he had been that good throughout the game he got a standing ovation. I very much doubt things like that happen at other clubs. At the end of the day however this is a Liverpool forum and we are not here to wank off other teams and their managers.

what was particularly noticeable against birmingham was how often our wide players had PLENTY of space but consistently put in crosses of extremely poor quality

theyre 4 points clear of us after a few games - big deal. arsenal will struggle to break down sides who employ tactics like birmingham did at anfield. they already did v blackburn and man city.

they are WAY short of runaway winners
