lol Villa would cost 40 odd million.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostI'd go for Villa as a replacement.
Anelka won't play the rotation game without throwing a strop IMO.
Valencia would never sell him anyways imo, they have no goal threat without him as yesterdays performance against Espanyol showed.

We need a good, young and reliable defender to add some depth in our CB department and eventually replace Hyypia.
We should also sign a quality left footed winger because our balance is poor on that flank when Arbeloa is LB and it seems Kewell's hopeless.
We don't need strikers unless we sell Crouch and even if we do, he shouldn't be replaced by an expensive player. Left wing is where our problem lies.

as long as we have SG, it isn't... buy a proper central midfielder with a mixture of guts and guile eg. fabregas (or let xabi get back to what he's good at)... and have pennant as back-up to the main left winger SG...Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostWe need a good, young and reliable defender to add some depth in our CB department and eventually replace Hyypia.

The Anfield manager said: "We've been working on buying new players since the beginning of September. We do not have problems in the financial area because we have sold a lot of players. We have around 35m euros (£20.7m).
If you read it from a different angle this IS a classic Rafa quote...
Picture the scene - Rafa knows that there's £20m in the bank come January. He'd really like to spend it on players. Others on the Board have different designs on it - maybe a dividend, maybe reduce the borrowing on the new stadium. What Rafa does is pure Rafa brinksmanship - he tells the world that its his to spend and dares the Board to say different.
Just a "possibility" - as Rafa would say...

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

Hehe... some mad things being said in this thread.
- Arbeloa does overlap. Also, aside from Aurelio, he is the most comfortable with the ball at his feet, only difference being he can actually defend too.
- Insua is not our best LB. I rate the lad too and would like to see him get a few games this season to see exactly how far he is (or isn't) progressing but lets not be ridiculous.
- We're not going to sign Augero. It's not even worth talking about how much he'd cost because A.Madrid simply won't sell him.
- We may have gotten a good fee for Crouch in the summer but now that it's common knowledge there has been a relationship breakdown and both parties want out, I think the fee will be under 10M. It doesn't help that he's stalling on a new contract either. Why would anyone pay a premium?
- We are not going to sign Micah Richards. Probably ever.

Spot on there.Originally posted by desertscouser View PostNo more defensive strikers and wingers who aren't wingers Rafa. It's time to get these transfers right.
Previously we bought players for a particular role and because our hands were tied not being able to bring in the top player in a particular position.
Buy a striker to score goals and wingers to hog the touchline and put the crosses in.
I am starting to wonder now that we have bought Babel, a player with undoubted ability, we don't really know what to do with him to get the best out of him.Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.
Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

That's what Pennant does and I don't want to see any more of that.Originally posted by andyinswinton View Postwingers to hog the touchline and put the crosses in.
What we need are pacey wingers with a lot of skill that can beat defenders, get to the byline, get into the box and score goals as well as set them up.

I've been saying this about AFII for donkey's.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostSometimes I find it hilarious when you come out with this weird overhyping of kids ****, sometimes it just stumps me. Insua's an 18 year old kid with 2 caps for us and very definite potential, not 'our best left back'.

He might well prove to be a quality LB for us and in the not too distant future, but to say he's already our best left back after 2 caps thrown his way when we were playing a number of reserve teamers (the only 2 first team caps in his career iirc) is just silly. Hilarious even. Not as funny as 2 years ago when you said Hammill should be playing for us already, but funny all the same.
Whenever AFII falls in love with a particular player, that player (according to AFII) then becomes the best player in his position.
