You missed my point mate. The bit in bold goes without saying.

The suggestion was made that if you make ANY criticism, then you're NOT 'supporting the team through thick and thin'...

The implication is that if you criticise, you're no longer a 'supporter'

I got your point loud and clear, Syd. Personally I think a supporter should SUPPORT the team. Perhaps those who constantly post negative and non-constructive criticism are not actually supporters but just followers?

Good post, Nicey. I enjoyed the read - Some good points.

"...walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain..." as the song goes. Our dreams are being (albeit fairly lightly) tossed and blown at the moment.

This is the time to voice support. Of course, it doesn't mean people cannot be constructively critical - but a bit of positivity would go down a storm at the moment.

So unless we blindly support and utter the odd 'tally ho' regardless of what happens on the pitch, we're not real supporters?

If we are pissed off when we lose and express it, we are not supporters?

No offence mate, but that's sheer bollocks.

I 'support' by definition and in every sense of the word.

I also care enough to be ****ed off when things are poor. For me, a supporter cares too. I saw people yesterday saying they werent bothered about the defeat and didnt care about it.

THOSE are the ones who arent 'real' supporters.

Very rarely its the results that annoy me, you can't win every game and thats what makes sport worth watching, its generally the lack of effort. The football played this year is very very boring and negative. I would go as far to say that we now play the worse football in the league.

People seem to be getting more annoyed with results this season because people had high expectations. Take last nights game for example, five passes between Carra and Hyypia, long hoof up the pitch to no one and then it starts all over again?? No one breaking from midfield, no one taking on players up the wings, no one in the box when crosses are eventually put in?? Kuyt and Veronin were usually playing in defence?? Only Benayoun showed any urgency to get forward.
On another note, how childish is it to say that someone is more of a reds fan than someone else. Oh, I stood in the rain for 3 hours to get a match ticket and you watched the match on TV, that makes me a better fan, that means I can comment on the match, that means that the bad results hurt me more?? Grow the **** up.
Every one is entitled to support their team in any way they want. Weather thats being a season ticket holder or a TV supporter.

                Where did i infer otherwise?

You seem to be arguing that a supporter must never say anything negative and never criticise.

People like that arent 'supporters' as much as head-in-the-sand yes men.

I'm still fecked off with last night.

The only solution to a defeat is for the next game to come quickly and to win it.

I am not quite sure what the title of the thread is trying to say. Even though it does suggest something rather drastic.
Any fans that were at the match last night were proper fans, thats one thing I know, Besiktas is not the best places to go for away supporters. Credit to the Besiktas fans though.
Easier said that done trying to get the whole of Anfield singing and hoping up and down like that at Anfield, we are dealing with a different football fan culture here, at Anfield we have families, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, even Granny and Grandad. Where as with the Besiktas fans, its predominantly young Turkish lads, many of whom have no job. Kind reminds me of the sort of crowd that would have been sitting in the Kop through the Shankly Era, the similarities can be easily made.
When we are playing dejective stuff at Anfield, it can be hard to sing, I like to think I do atleast try my best, or sing when the rest are singing everytime I am at Anfield. In an ideal world, I would love the rest to sing all the time. but that is never going to be unless it is a really big night. Ala the clip you posted above.
Despite all the negativity, I am still optimistic, I think if we had say Torres available last night, we would have won that game. Plenty left to play for. unbeaten in the league, not out of the Champions League yet.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                          * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

                                About what?

                                Thats not one defeat!
Thats what has been coming for the last 8 or so games.

                                Against Portsmouth we were rubbish,Spurs couldn't keep the ball,Everton same,Marseille pathetic,Porto culdn't keep the ball,Birmingham rubbish.......

We cannot keep hold of a football,we play far too many long balls,we bypass our own midfield,we have too many grafters in the team,Momo,Kuyt,Babel,Vorinin not good enough.

(I'm willing to accept that Vorinin and especially Babel may need some time)

But overall we look a poor side and it's looked like that for a while now.

Rafa must be dillusional, after the match saying we controled the game!!!

                                Did we ****!!

                                28 shots??
Dont let 28 tame shots from long range convince you we controlled a game FFS!!

To control a game you have to control the football,I can't remember the last time we strung 5 or 6 passes together.

Yeah well done Nicey you're the only true Liverpool fan here the rest of don't feel the same passion as you,kop on will you fella!!!

I'm not gonna sit idly by and be positive when there is **** all to be positive about,we're playing abismal lately and if we continue to play like that we'll be ripped apart by a decent side.

I fear for our chances against Arsenal this weekend, hopefully Torres,Alonso and Agger will be back to save our blushes!!
Could not agree more. Spot on.

Villa 2-1. Lucky to get 3 points. Draw would have been a fair result.
Chelsea 1-1. Our best performance so far. Deserved the win.
Sunderland 2-0. Struggled against them. Sunderland wasted their chances and Liverpool eventually got the win.
Derby 6-0. Wow. We beat them 6-0.
Portsmouth 0-0. We didn't deserve the draw. Portsmouth created more and had more desire to win. Lucky point for us.
Porto 1-1. A desperate performance. Lucky to get anything from the game. The red card created a smoke screen for this poor performance.
Birmingham 0-0. Another game where we were lucky to get a point.
Wigan 1-0. A narrow escape thanks to a late Benayoun goal.
Spurs 2-2. We were blessed to even get a point from this one.
Everton 2-1. The less said the better. Two penos needed to get something out of this. Performance did not deserve three points.
Besiktas 2-1. They played the better football, created the most CLEAR chances, had a bigger desire to win. Liverpool deserved nothing out of this game.
