Is exactly what i've been saying all along. I almost feel he's sacrificing his reputation for the team. You may feel that's an exaggeration, but look at the flak he gets on here for example. He's a TEAM player who's not being played to his strengths, and this is clearly affecting his confidence.

I made a point earlier in the thread about the number of times in a game he causes the opposition to give possession back to us by putting them under CONSTANT pressure, and was laughed at by some, most surprisingly by certain posters who are clearly knowledgeable when it comes to the game. I find it unbelieveable that people can't see the importance of that. He's almost like an advanced Masher, albeit without as much class.

For a player who has proven to be such a prolific goalscorer (yes, I know it was the Dutch league :yawn and who is now having to adapt to a role that doesn't allow him anywhere near as much goalscoring opportunity must be quite difficult, but by God he's giving it his best ****ing shot.

For these reasons, it turns my stomach to listen to the ****e spouted about him on forums such as these.

there's two types of strikers - those who score and those who help unpick defenses and create chances for others to score. Kuyt is neither. I think he'll find himself working hard in a different league in europe next season. He's been found out here, he simply isn't anywhere near good enough. I'm honestly tired of people making excuses for second rate players. I also watched the game against city again, i saw lack of pace, poor first touch and an inability to bury a sitter! Unfortunately this wasn't a one off for kuyt.

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has vowed to improve his form but says he expects to get criticism when missing chances in front of goal.

The Dutch hit-man has been visibly out of form when called upon in recent weeks and has come in for plenty of flack because of it, but – with seven goals – he remains the club’s third top scorer this season and believes he will have added to that many times by the end of the season.

"When you are a player at a club like Liverpool you have to realise that people expect a lot of you,” Kuyt told the club’s official website.

"People are always watching you. If you do good things, the papers are full of you. If you miss a few chances or don't play well, the papers are also full of you.

"It works both ways, that's the way football is. I don't mind too much. Okay, it's not a lot of fun to read the papers the next day if they are singling you out.”

Kuyt, misfiring against Manchester City on Sunday, singles out the 0-0 draw at Blackburn in November as the low point in a catalogue of goal-free efforts, but is confident that the goals will return to his game.

"After the Blackburn game, maybe I was more disappointed than anyone,” he added.

"I know I work hard enough to start getting results in my game. I just have to be patient.

"I scored a lot of goals in Holland. Many of them were from chances similar to those I had against Blackburn. Usually, they would go in for me.

"It's just a matter of time before it all comes back.

"Of the games I have started this season I am currently on my target of trying to score a goal in every two starts I get.

"If I play in more than 40 games and manage to score over 20 goals, I will be more than happy."

            Cheers for this

I really really want it to work out for Kuyt, he's passionate, comes across as a great fella, and looking at his record in Holland - he does know where the goal is.

For some reason though it just hasn't happened for him here and he's rarely looked like a goal threat. I think the next 5 months will be crucial for him though, in terms of his LFC career.

I also think he's mental if he believes he'll score anything like 20 goals this season. 10 in all comps and he should throw a party.

How many times does he say all this garbage? Its time he started to prove to everyone what he makes out to be. At least with Crouch we can see a change in the game, the tempo is higher, the opposition sits deeper. With Kuyt, they are buoyed when they see him running on. Seriously, when he is on, it feels like we have 10 men. He gives the ball away so many times, he might as well play for them.

As a striker who is playing the support role he has to be quick, decisive, intelligent and scoring goals. He is good in neither of those catagories. What is the point in having him?

If even he realises there's a problem, that should say something to the posters trying to convince us there's nothing wrong...

Maybe but I see no great problem in him shooting high. he acknowledges he needs to do better and no one doubts his commitment to the cause.

I hope that Rafa can find a way to get him back to the best he showed when he first arrived and at other points since he joined.

There you all go he's said it himself. He's been struggling for form for a while now and he will get it back. If he doesn't get it back before mid Feb he'll be sold I reckon.
