The problem I ahve with Kuyt is that he's slow and that he NEVER looks like a goal threat, it's not just the lack of condidence it's the first touch, and his sluggishness. Sure he's running everywhere but he doesn't exactly look energetic. He's managed to piss me off especially in this second season. every time I see him he seems to annoy me more.
At least Cisse offered a threat with his pace. He scored a few too. With Cisse, the defenders were always worried about being left for dead, with Kuyt they have no concerns at all, its party time and everyone's invited (doors close at 8, but a few minutes will be added as Kuyt will proably be a little late)

To be honest I still think there is a decent player in Kuyt but he has been in very poor form this season. If I was Rafa I would give him a rest as his confidence is clearly a problem and he needs to rediscover the verve with which he played when he arrived.

In my book he will always deserve respect for the way he always tries and works hard for the team. In the long run though respect doesn't win you the league and both the club and Kuyt need to improve in the future and it may be for the best of both parties that this is not together. I still have hope he will prove my early impressions of him correct.

I agree, he definitely doesn't deserve to be disresepcted by paying fans in the stadium and to the best of my knowledge he isn't. He's never booed off the pitch and for the most part is treated very well by the fans. But that's only because he tries so hard. Eric Meijer was never booed off either and he was a ****e footballer.

We won 12 of 15 games with Crouch and Kuyt starting together as a partnership last season and in those Kuyt scored 9 goals, Crouchy 7 and they created a number of those for each other - probably around half in fact. Not that bad really, though not mind-blowing either I'd admit.

It's when he plays with other types that things go badly. With Torres this season, and Bellamy last, he takes it upon himself to become almost an extra midfielder and it rarely results in good attacking football. Voronin likes to move around too so that partnership is doomed, with Fowler there was never any pace (they hardly played together) whilst on his own we end up with no strikers at all as it becomes 4-6-0.

In my view Kuyt is only really effective when he plays with a target man, someone who doesn't come deep or wide, and with wide midfielders in the team. He's scored the vast majority of his goals in and around the 6 yard box, either with close-range headers or running onto passes or other balls.

In other words I think he is a penalty box striker but despite this Rafa ends up getting him to spend 95% of his time outside the box, which is never going to work out well for a guy with no pace and who simply cannot beat people with skill.

I posted this on the "Ronny" thread in the rumour section, but perhaps it's more appropriate here. There is speculation that we might get Ronaldinho on loan this month. I don't think this is reailstic, because isn't he too similar to Kuyt? Both tricky and pacey, with a great eye for goal, and too lazy to track back and defend...Kuyt's superior heading ability (and dentistry) clinch it for me. Sorry Ronny.

I think that is a fair analysis in many ways. However at times he has offered a lot in combination with Torres and last season with Gerrard coming from deeper - although rarely in terms of his own output. I like having this as an option but it requires that the wide midfielders offera threat in the box otherwise we are simply reducing the threats in our team by one.

The Kuyt-Crouch thing is interesting - I would wonder how many of those games also featured Pennant and/or Aurelio as the key to that setup would seem logically to be the type of service (i.e. requiring crosses rather than balls to run on to).

i could put my dog in a liverpool jersey and he would cover the same ground and be as effective as kuyt

I reckon some mug of a Premiership club might be prepared to pay about £4m for him, but Holland is where it’s at for Kuyt. Some Dutch club would surely be prepared to pay upwards of £6m for him, given his record over there?
