Sunderland reject Liverpool offer for striker Jones

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has rejected an approach from Liverpool for striker Kenwyne Jones.

The Journal says Reds boss Rafa Benitez is understood to have offered Peter Crouch to Sunderland in an exchange deal and, although Keanes response was a negative one, the Spaniards interest in a player who has exceeded expectations remains active.

Keane and his coaching team will do their utmost to protect Jones, but Liverpools interest and the mounting hype that surrounds the striker will not aid their efforts.

    So what do we think?

I've been impressed from what I've seen of him on the box so far this season. Him and Dixon Etuhu (sp) look decent players for sunderland.

edit: I never saw tonights game as I was out with the kids for bommy nite.

We think that if this actually happened, then there really would be serious questions asked.

A club like LFC cannot (should not) be in the market for these mediocre - good players. We should be after the Berbatovs and Owens of this world. They'de probably be looking for 10mil + for that lad and that's just pants.

              Surely not?

I mean, he's looked decent for them. Unplayable at times, superb in the air, strong and quick - the sort of player Heskey should've been.

But he's nothing like proved himself. To offer Crouch in exchange would be demented - valueing Jones at £10m+.

He's got potential but I can't imagine Crouch would even consider going to Sunderland, no matter how ****ty Rafa treats him.

Hmmmm, not sure this guy is what we need.

Is he good enough for a team with aspirations of a title challenge? I'm not so sure he is and we'd be better off keeping Crouch, imho.

                        Ridiculous suggestion.

Jones is totally unproven, it would be a waste of money.

IF rafa's seriously interested in this jones lad, and genuinely values him at £10m or more, then his judgement on strikers is totally bewildering to me.
