If we do sign another target man I would prefer someone with reasonable pace though. When we play without Torres the chronic lack of pace is costly. It means we cant get in behind the defence on the break and it severely limits our attacking options. Berbatov has reasonable pace, if Rafa thinks he can sort his attitude out I think he would be a winner.
Thats a fair point. Maybe he likes the big games then as he has genuinely looked horrible for most of the season. I agree with you about pace - I think Anelka is the best all round option of any striker we could reasonably get in January. For me he has matured a lot in the last few years and would be much more affordable than Berbatov.

He's over-rated and we could do better for the money. If we want a lazy ****er up front, let's sign Mark Viduka.

Absolutely Pete. That's exactly what I was saying. He's also got Gary Neville's face tattoed on his each of his testicles.

Didn't see much of him playing alongside Torres at atletico. How did they do? I know Torres is playing a completely different role now, but still?
Torres played mostly out wide when they played at the same time.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

But Anelka lacks any ariel threat whatsoever so he doesnt fit into that targetman category for me. Great player though.

Trying to think of other stirkers who are strong in the air but also have pace. Drogba of course, but hes not an option. Kanoute perhaps. Diego Milito is excellent in the air but is a little ponderous. I cant think of many better than Berbatov that fit the bill to be honest.

                Agree.

                He's epically good.

I'm just not sure we need a traditional target man. Anelka while not a target man type in the air is decent enough for it not to be a weakness as such and is very capable of holding the ball up which is a large part of the job done by a target man.

howard_lfc mentioned United but Arsenal don't have a real aerial threat either (although the fact that unlike a few years ago they do have Adebayor who is at least willing and competent in the air sometimes makes teams behave as if they do which I guess is half the battle). I think movement, pace and upper body strength are the qualities we should look for before heading ability.

Here's an idea; **** that useless dutch carthorse off. Keep Crouch and sign another top centre forward, or play Babel as a striker and sign a winger instead.

                    Hardly rocket science is it?

Seriously, do we NEED a target man? Utd don't have one and they seem to do alright.
I think they're better when Saha starts

Note: I only see him in the odd game.
he sulks too easily when things aren't going his way. Bit of a poser too, always playing with his gay hair, does my head in that. Watch out for it nextime, when the camera flashes on him, guarantee he will stroke his head.

Anyone for Crespo? One of the best all round finishers I've seen. Left foot, right foot, head, outside box, inside box, I always loved Crespo and hated when he played against us. Son't think he had the belly for the prem though.
