Thats a fair point. Maybe he likes the big games then as he has genuinely looked horrible for most of the season. I agree with you about pace - I think Anelka is the best all round option of any striker we could reasonably get in January. For me he has matured a lot in the last few years and would be much more affordable than Berbatov."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Absolutely Pete. That's exactly what I was saying. He's also got Gary Neville's face tattoed on his each of his testicles.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View Postso what you're leading us to believe is that if you were to remove all his clothing and that greasy hair you'd find cheating ***** tattooed about his person?

Torres played mostly out wide when they played at the same time.Originally posted by SpeedyG View PostApparently someone, can't remember who, just put in a 17m bid. From what I've seen of him, he looks like a more skillful Rooney.
Didn't see much of him playing alongside Torres at atletico. How did they do? I know Torres is playing a completely different role now, but still?Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

But Anelka lacks any ariel threat whatsoever so he doesnt fit into that targetman category for me. Great player though.Originally posted by dww View PostThats a fair point. Trying to think of other stirkers who are strong in the air but also have pace. Drogba of course, but hes not an option. Kanoute perhaps. Diego Milito is excellent in the air but is a little ponderous. I cant think of many better than Berbatov that fit the bill to be honest.

I'm just not sure we need a traditional target man. Anelka while not a target man type in the air is decent enough for it not to be a weakness as such and is very capable of holding the ball up which is a large part of the job done by a target man.Originally posted by pablo1981 View PostBut Anelka lacks any ariel threat whatsoever so he doesnt fit into that targetman category for me. howard_lfc mentioned United but Arsenal don't have a real aerial threat either (although the fact that unlike a few years ago they do have Adebayor who is at least willing and competent in the air sometimes makes teams behave as if they do which I guess is half the battle). I think movement, pace and upper body strength are the qualities we should look for before heading ability."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think they're better when Saha startsOriginally posted by Howard_lfc View PostThat would be Kenwynne Jones then !
Seriously, do we NEED a target man? Utd don't have one and they seem to do alright.

he sulks too easily when things aren't going his way. Bit of a poser too, always playing with his gay hair, does my head in that. Watch out for it nextime, when the camera flashes on him, guarantee he will stroke his head.Originally posted by bazza76 View PostJust out of interest, why do you say that, I was not aware of anything he did to make himself look like he has a bad attitude. Whenever I see him, he is always working hard,
Note: I only see him in the odd game.

Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
