I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
    Mine angry and defrauded young?

It is the daily mail after all, so.....but if these are Rafa's words (in bold)...

"We had a meeting the day of the Arsenal game and the meeting was really positive.

"After that meeting, something changed. I tried to explain my ideas, but they said to me 'Rafa, keep focussing on coaching and training because Rick Parry will be in charge of buying and selling players'.

"I tried to explain to them and now, it is simple: they say, 'Keep focussed and Mr Parry will keep working in the transfer market'
                  ."

It's obvious to me (if this is a verbatim quote) that if 'something changed' it is not to Rafa's liking, and allied to the press conference and his appearance in a track suit, the 'my fans' slip etc he's letting us know.

I really hate doom mongers and the like, but if we're not careful I really do believe Rafa will walk - soon.

I think saying 'Rafa points and Parry fetches' is way too simplistic.

Summinks up - and the 'my fans' bit could be a hint that he needs our support.

I'm also on the outside of a bottle of wine and have hardly eaten all day so I could be talking utter ****e!

HAve a listen to the podcast in the Echo, mate.
Tony Barrett and a couple of others give more insight into the situation there.

Guillem Ballague said this yesterday. Its on the sky sports website in respnse to a question put to him

                      Question:-
Hi Guillem, Is it possible you could tell me what English clubs are rumoured to be after Mallorca's Argentinean winger Gutierrez and if he is likely to move to the Premier League? Paddy Daly, Liverpool fan, New Zealand.

GUILLEM REPLIES: He is actually known as Jonas and he has got an offer from Portsmouth. The manager decided not to include him for the last match against Real Madrid before the international break because he didn't seem mentally prepared for the game. He was discussing his future in England and Portsmouth are favourites to take him.

It would be a great move for him and I honestly think Rafa Benitez kept an eye on him. But from what I have heard, Liverpool may not be doing any movement in January or, better said, the decision is to wait few weeks before players get sold (Carson, Crouch) or bought.

Interesting situation at Liverpool by the way, where the owners stop a manager buying or selling when the team clearly needs a couple of reinforcements that were already identified and apparently were not going to cost a penny.

That there is a breakdown in communication between Rafa and the owners, as well as a cultural difference which also complicates things.

The Yanks wants Rafa to contact them through Parry/Foster Gillett it seems, the official channels, and not directly.

Again, as has been said on here, in the US the manager is bottom of the ladder, under the CEO...meaning Parry being over Rafa.. well, let us hope they haven't misunderstood that.

Add what Rafa said today, that they don't really understand the way the transfer market runs here, and it might not be too far off.
