I don't want the **** anywhere near our club. If Rafa has to go then he had better be replaced with another candidate because I'm sure there'll be more than one top class manager who would like the job.

But surely that's part and parcel of being a football supporter? The prerogative to be completely fickle, irrational and hypocritical. Anyone who denies that all of the above are intrinsic parts of their footballing make-up are big fat fibbers.

I remember in the last throes of Houllier's regime people were creaming at the prospect of Mourinho taking over, with a goodly few using his picture as an avatar. Just like the thousands of Man U fans who campaigned to get Ferguson sacked in 1990, people's opinions change. And the biggest factor in achieving this is results. Bottom line.

If (big if, huge if, an if so big at this point I'm not too sure why I'm even talking about it, but still...) Mourinho became manager, I reckon a string of impressive results would blow away most people's doubts as to his suitability as manager. Obviously, the converse is true also and would exacerbate any already-existing resentments. Ultimately, a manager's popularity with his club's supporters stands and falls on his team's results.

To clarify I fervently hope that none of this comes to pass, and Benitez has a long and trophy-laden future at Anfield. Equally, at the moment I'm not enamoured of the thought that Mourinho may be the one to take over. But if (big if, huge if, etc...) it did happen I'd have to get on with it, same as all of us.

I'm absolutely confident that nobody, not even G&H, knows what the future will bring concerning Rafa. They havn't made their mind up yet. When we have progressed in CL all avenues will be open.
