I think its been clear for some time that SG & Masher are our no.1 pairing in midfield. Alonso is a fine player but not as good as either SG or Masher. However, we still come back to the question of will Masher be bought and if so is he worth £17m.

If Masher is bought then clearly we are overloaded in CM. On the face of it Momo is the one to be sold but in our current financial position, if Masher is bought could we afford to turn down a £15m+ bid for Alonso?

Masch - Xabi with SG as one of the 3 in 4231

Three reserve team games plus the games in Hungary and for the U20 national team. I don't think those games is any worse than the reserve team games.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

But AFII, you said yourself earlier that you have only seen him play those reserve team games.

And in your mind, that is enough to replace one of our established strikers, is it?

He should be judged from the games he has played in his whole career and not just the three reserve team games, that's my point. Nothing to do with how many games any of us have seen him play.

I don't get it why the sudden his whole career before he joined us don't should count at all

                        To add something meaningful:

To all those who think we should replace Mascherano with Alonso, I can only say that is very ill-informed. We had been crying out for Alonso's guile, calmness just a few weeks ago when we weren't at our best in midfield and Masch lost us as much possession as he gained it.

Alonso is a total class act and will be here for a long time. You don't get rid of players like that and I'm very certain Rafa won't either, otherwise he wouldn't have got him in first-thing he got here and kept him here as an integral part of our team.

I would rather, and Im sure Rafa would do it as well, try to finance the Mascherano deal with the sales of players such as Riise or Momo for example (!), before he'd give away one of our most valuable gems, ie. Alonso.

If people even suggest it, just because Masch had a good game, they seem to be mad (Im not saying he's a bad player, not at all, but Alonso is a different player and we need him - without a shadow of a doubt)

                          No AFII.

                          No, no, no.

                          Listen.

You (AFII) are proposing that Nemeth replace one of our four established first team strikers.

And your justification for this is based on a maximum of 3 games you may or may not have seen him play for the reserves.

Do you see the problem here?

I dare say we have scouts who watched Nemeth play on numerous occasions before he arrived at Melwood and presumably, if they deemed him ready for the first team, they would have reported as such.

Forgive me for trusting their judgment infinitely more than yours. Nemeth didn't suddenly prove himself ready after three appearances for the reserves.

Now he has started playing, he needs some games to establish himself before he can be fast-tracked into the first team squad. How many games? I don't know. But certainly more than 3. Obviously more than 3.

                            I didn't say that.
