It's a quote from Oliver Stone's film, 'JFK', which is in turn a reference to Lewis Carroll's story where the normal rules do not apply but are in fact reversed.Originally posted by Hot Carl View Postwot does that mean
So Jeff Stelling being wrong is like being transported to a parallel universe where normality is inverted.
It was only a passing comment and I really wish I hadn't bothered.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I reckon we're going to sign someone of real significance, and I'm not talking Michael Owen/Dean Ashton/Agbonlahore.Originally posted by desertscouser View PostThat's what we need RC, another forward who strikes fear into the hearts of the opposition. If we bring one in and our other top players stay fit then we have a chance. Otherwise, I can't see it.
I think we're going to sign another player in the same class as Torres.

David Villa perhaps?
Or maybe we could clone Torres?A humble guy with healthy desire.

Well the Americans have got their backs up now, Rafa said not long ago he wants to sign a new contract and the fans have voiced concerns about our spending power.Originally posted by desertscouser View PostHow funny would that be if that did happen?
Parry said money is available, the Yanks have said money is available for the right players.
It's not so far fetched IMO. What's another 30 million when you're looking at spending 10 times and more on a stadium?Originally posted by Gordon Brown

Sure, when youre reasonably close year in, year out, you will be amongst the favourites, and, odds on, sooner or later we are gonna bring it home!Originally posted by The Erectile Banana View PostBookmakers odds or polls do not reflect true reality.
Just because we are considered third or fourth favourite to win the league does not mean we actually have a realistic chance of triumph.
The fact that we are consistently amongst the favourites without winning the league for 17 years goes to show how few teams are capable of winning the league due to the superior resources of a select few. What it really highlights is the paucity of any real competition in the Premier League.
If it was any other sport and a team had not won the league for 17 years they would not still be amongst the favourites every season.

Tricky question- we've finished 3rd consecutively over the last 2 years & on one of those occasions the Gooners only just crept into the top 4. I really expected us to push on to finish a decent 3rd & mebbe even 2nd this season & a lot closer to the 1st place points-wise. Who knows, we may still do that but I thought this season would see us leaving the Gooners in our wake & that just hasnt happened. I do think they'll drop off this year tho.
I disagree when people say we have the squad to be up there- we just dont have as many game-changing players as the others. It isnt surprising cos those sort of players cost serious money & we havent been operating in that market for more than one transfer window where as scum & chavscum have spent ridiculous amounts of cash over the years & the Gonners are benefitting from Wenger's genious in youth developement which Rafa has not been afforded the time to try to emulate.
If Stevie & NAndo are kept quiet then the others are not at the same level as winning games single-handedly. Our big 2 attacking players cannot be expected to win us every match & that is why we need more top top quality up top as the others have. IMO we are a CF/playmaker, a Winger & a LB short of this. We also need quality cover for CB. This will take a lot of money, but there are certainly players we could sell & raise a profit from that would go some way to financing the transfers.
I imagine rafa is of a similar opinion as I on this one still. Whether or not the septics are realistic to see this I dont know & I worry not.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

It's a Big 3, we gate-crash it when the other teams involved happen to go through transitional seassons.
Until we adopt a different football philosophy we'll never be a serious contender in the league. Our so called crushing machine is basically the same as it was under Houllier only instead of Stevie and Owen we have Stevie and Torres. If that's what 125M has bought us then we really should ask for a refund.
