The point is this: our rivals every summer are going out and spending millions on world class players. You want the best man as manager, but now you're saying we should be able to compete with them without going out and buying a world class player every summer because that would be "buying a title challenge"? Seems like you want the "best man" as you call him, but want him to fight handicapped against impossible odds in the process.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostSee my response to tomas.
Debate the point or don't bother replying

Dhavlos, the way I see it you can only play 11 players at any one time.Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostThe point is this: our rivals every summer are going out and spending millions on world class players. You don't need 2 or 3 world class players every summer, you need to construct a team and get that team to realise it's potential.
This squad, no matter which way you cut it, should challenge for the title. Not necessarily win it, but at least compete.
We're under achieving, no-one can seriously argue otherwise, and we have under-achieved domestically for the past 3 and a half seasons, 18 if you want to be accurate.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

This is the bottom line.
We have two choices as I see it:
1.) The Chelsea Model
2.) The Arsenal Model
One involves buying success and the other involves long term development and backing the manager, whoever he may be, to the hilt though good times and bad. It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

I follow your rationale. However I think it would be a travesty if Rafa is sacked this summer. He should be given till the end of his contract to deliver. Back him in the transfer market and lets see how he goes. Yes, granted he often baffles with his rotation, tinkering and playing player out of position at times. I believe that our squad is still full of underachievers and I believe that Rafa will get rid of the deadwood this summer. I think we may be on a cusp, the lines between success and failure is very thin. Give him a chance till the end of his contract, if we aren't even close and have regressed then sack him, not now.Originally posted by DJS View PostNot sure what clarification's needed mate. I am fairly convinced that Rafa will be sacked and Mourinho will take over.
As for **** face being our manager
, yes, he is a great motivator and was successful in winning two titles but he represents everything that is wrong with football. We all want to win, but I think it's how you win that counts.

Let's be clear then, you lot are saying you want us to buy the title.
Is that the way it is?
If that's the case I think it takes a lot of the gloss off Rafa's reputation.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

Seems to me it`s the only way to win a title these days. It`s the modern game I`m afraid.

The way I see it, if we get two world class players in two key positions, we'd be championship material. Are you saying going out and buying those players is akin to "buying a title challenge"? Earlier today you were advocating Mourinho as a replacement for Rafa, praising him for winning the league having spent £89m.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostDhavlos, the way I see it you can only play 11 players at any one time.
