Rafa has been taking legal advice RE the Klinsmann comments...

League Managers' Association confirm Rafa Benitez contact

RAFAEL Benitez has been given "advice, support and encouragement" by the managers' union as the battle for control of Liverpool comes to a conclusion.

Liverpool are bracing themselves for the expected announcement this week that American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have clinched a £350million re-financing package.

And that comes as the extent of the fans' animosity to the co-owners has become apparent, with two polls showing a vast majority of the club's support want the Americans out.

If Hicks and Gillett do gain a stronger hold on the club they bought with bank loans last February, it is likely to signal another major step towards boss Benitez's departure.

And the League Managers' Association have become involved at this stage to offer advice to Benitez.

The LMA's new chief executive Richard Bevan, in a BBC Radio Five Live interview, has admitted the organisation has been in touch with Benitez.

This has clearly come following admittance by Hicks that he and his partner Gillett held talks with Jurgen Klinsmann to discuss the German taking over at Anfield.

Bevan, who is the former chief executive of the professional cricketers' association, said: "Yes, we have been in touch with Rafael Benitez.

"We have provided advice, support and encouragement. But obviously we are unable to say any more."

It is believed that advice could be of a legal nature, with Benitez's position being undermined by his employers.

    Reece, get off my wife.:whatever:

But basically your saying he`s done it before so he`ll do it again.
Did he buy Corinthians at a time of recession when building prices are at a premium.Do you think that when they announce the new stadium plans next week they`ll then pospone building by three yrs therefore losing important revenue needed to pay back the loans?I still see no FACTS.

I think the stadium plans will be downsized, again as well as delayed. I also think a lot of the money from the refinancing will be fiddled to lines Hicks' pockets.

Hicks is not the messiah that will bring us the financial muscle to compete like he promised he would.

Huge, huge errors of judgement were made when the club was put in the hands, most people can already see this, how you fail to us beyond me.

As for your point about Rafa kicking off. Rafa didn't get to splash out on the like of Alves and Simao like he wanted to, infact in the end we lost out on both players for the sake of a couple of million. Did you see any public outbursts? I didn't.

New owners come in, and within months Rafa's having public outbursts.

I'm not Rafa's biggest fan, and I have major doubts about whether he's the man to win us the league, but with the season being hijacked by off the pitch drama it's almost a side issue at the moment. However, in this affair with G&H, he has been the voice of the fans.

G&H promise money and staidum. Stadium downiszed. Rafa asks for money, they say no. He feels duped. And refuses to be silent and collude with their deception. Goes public about lack of funds for transfers. Gives them enough rope and sits back and watches.

One blunder after the next, and most people realise, they cannot be trusted.

They will continue to bleed us dry.

Rafa uses his friends in the media to pass messages to the board and fans. His favoured journalists, like Guillem Balague and Chris Bascombe, will 'create' stories about interest in Benitez (or players he wants) from other clubs. This tactic is not unique but it is very effective as Joe Public nearly always believes a story, however unfounded, if it's in the papers or on the telly (and this thread is conclusive proof of that).

Rafa has used this approach before when he was at Valencia where he also took on members of the board. I always wondered why, despite his magnificent record and hero status with the fans, Valencia never made more of an effort to keep him when we approached him as Manager. Even Wikipedia quotes "in the summer of 2004, coach Rafa Benitez decided to leave the club (Valencia) stating he had problems with the club president"...

Before you think I'm anti-Rafa, I repeat again I'm not. I think he's a terrific coach even if his cautious tactics are at times frustrating. But I certainly don't feel sorry for him over the Klinsmann situation because Hicks was only playing the same game as Benitez. However, Rafa is very shrewd and does it stealthily through his trusted group of sycophantic journos whereas Hicks just blurted it out in an interview as if it was a sordid secret he was concealing.
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

Johnny, I thought you only believed in "cold hard facts",

                  Try this on for size:
'After the united match George and I had a long and productive meeting with Rafa, following the United match, we put all our issues behind us and received a commitment from Rafa that he wanted to stay. Rafa has the support of both of us, and our communication has greatly improved.'
Gillett said in February: "We have purchased the club with no debt on the club so, in that regard, it is different (to the Glazers).
“The situation in the credit markets has not affected our design, programme, or implementation of building our new stadium.

Can people stop sending abusive emails to G&H. There is constructive contact underway and any silly stuff will be divisive.

What you mean the thread that said that Rafa was going to be sacked, that the signing of Mashch looked unlikely and that the yanks were shafting us. What an absurd load of tosh that proved to be.

A number of people who gave me stick on that thread have sinced pm'd me to apologise.
