Diouf looked a great buy at the time.Originally posted by Los RojosI wonder who scouted them. Was it Ron Yeats, Alex Miller or Houllier himself?
It beggars belief that we spent £20m on Diao, Diouf and Cheyrou in the summer of 2002. It really does.
African player of the year twice, had a good WC (and we got him before that). He`s a talented player, with disgrasefull behaviour, but he wasused all wrong by GH.Blank

Diouf possibly had the talent to succeed at Anfield, Diao certainly never had. Diouf's attitude is a disgrace and for that reason he should never have been bought.
Diao attitude was decent to start with, but with 'only' 12 months of his staggeringly expensive contract left, he's set for life with that. That being the case, the decent footballer would have accepted a pay-off and moved to play football. You can argue that Diao is taking what is rightfully his, but it shouldn't just be about the cash, now he has so much of it!
When he joins another club - probably French, I doubt he'll get £5k a week in wages.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Recent African Players of Year have included Victor Ikpeda, Mustafa Hadji (who flopped at Coventry) and Patrick Mbomo.
Buying a player who is/ has been an African Player of Year doesn't guarantee you a player good enough for the Premiership.
Diouf had a decent World Cup but we've been stung before buying players based on such an assessment i.e. Phil Babb.
At the end of the day, Diouf has got some talent, but he's not even good enough for Bolton anymore. We should have bought Anelka in 2002 and possibly Rosicky (when he was being touted around).

I will hold my hands up and say I have never seen any of diouf`s talant. One of the few games I never saw in the 2002 world cup was senegal v france. I believe he was good in this game but I missed it. I saw his other games though and saw nothing to impress me whatsoever. Within no time at all into his liverpool career it was blatantly obvious that he was never going to be a striker as long as he had a hole in his arse, so we shoved him on the right wing, as this was were he was going to now use all this so-called skill and speed. HA! ive never seen one trick from him, other than how to spit at nearly every teams away fans, yet only get collared for one. He runs with the ball in a straight line, staring down at his spasticated feet so he doesnt fall over them, can not turn, and is as fast as didi hamann with a hangover

I can't actually disagree too much with it either.

rafa:
"I was talking with Recreativo and everything was almost done but then at the last minute things changed," Benitez said.
"Sometimes it depends on the people around the players and if they have good advice or bad advice or bad advisors.
"In this case I think that, as a player, the most important thing is to play.
"If you don't play, you cannot show other people what you can do.
"He is fit, he is training. He is a very good professional but without games, teams won't see this.
"We will see how we can use Salif and it's a possibility he can play for the reserves.
"But we have young players in the reserves. If it's between using young players and a senior one, I would say use the young."
well if you cant get a game for the ressies can you still call youre self a proffessional footballer..."I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. But you will choose your own path. So, soon you may be seeing heaven. Choose the sword, and you will join me. Choose the ball and you join your mother, in death. You don’t understand my words, but you must choose. So… come boy, choose life or death."
"You would've been happier if you'd chosen to join your mother in her world. " - Ogami Itto

Exactly - your opinion. You're just guessing. You don't know for sure.Originally posted by bazza76Rafa's frustration is at Diao not moving for financial reasons IMO.
Originally posted by bazza76Stevie G has also criticised him lately saying he knew almost straight away he hadnt got what it takes.
That's not Diao's fault. He didn't buy himself, and he didn't set the fee. Blame the management at the time.
I think we should cut the guy some slack.
He hasn't ever had what it takes to be a LFC player, but he didn't put himself in that position. Others did, and he eneded up there.Oh I don't know.

It's blatantly obvious Rafa is frustrated at Diao not moving for financial reasons, as Rafa would get more to spend on wages etc if he was off the wage bill and I would doubt it is just my opinion.Originally posted by dom9Exactly - your opinion. You're just guessing. You don't know for sure.

Cut Diao some slack? no chance, I dont feel sorry for him at all, rumoured 40-60k a week, my heart bleeds for him.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

to be fair to diao......if one of my competitors offered me £200,000 a year contract and i knew i was only worth 50k would i turn it down??
No.....>Salif knows he is worth 5k max a week so why should he stop getting 50k a week??
I know Andy o Brien who plays for portsmouth, i was chatting to him the other day and he may be movingm i asked him where and he said Football is a short career,i will go with whover pays the most!!_____________________________________
