I wonder if this forum is now full of wind up merchants that support other teams.

Everyone is open to criticism especially with our current form but this is way above that.

I'd always back Gerrard, Carragaher & Rafa. So Gerrard has an off day and Carra gave away the pen They've also given us the Champions league. and we'll get number 19 with them as well.

When Stevie had his fantastic season he had two central midfielders behind him to protect the holes it leaves when Stevie play in his free position.

He can't just run around like a headless chicken when he only have one central midfielder behind him because that leaves to much space to our opponent to work with. That is why Rafa now play him deeper.

To control him and get him to be more of a team player, it hasn't worked so far because Stevie just isn't clever enough to be able to do that. He is being found out of position to many times.

But the thing is, I DONT wan't him cleaning up. I want him to be the attacking enforcer he is at his best, releasing him from the positional crap and defensive duties. I want him to be able to use his instinctive drives further up the pitch.

I think Rafa has given in to the hype, that SG has to play in the middle. Sad, but that's what I think.

He is not a ****, but I do think he has a massive ego and that it gets in the way of the main cause.

I don't know if a agree on the hype thing. If Rafa has given into the hype how come he had the balls to take him off the park during a derby game?

Until such a time that we have a supporting cast that can live upto the demands of the premiership then players in the mould of Gerrard and Torres will be ineffective in part IMO when placed in a team of medicore players.

AF, I'm not sure if I'm being thick. But you are saying one minute that he needs two midfielders behind him to be effective, So essentially he's playing in the hole (never appreciated him playing there but anyway I'll move on). But then when the manager changes the system so that he no longer has two player behind him and SG becomes ineffective that makes him thick?

Surely that is a selection issue? or is it easier for you to blame Gerrard rather than Rafa?

asidefrom the original post which was bizarre in it's level of vitriol,most of the others are about SG's best position and how rafa uses him. nothing wrong with that at all i think.

See the things that really pisses me off is when people say you cant just blame him for our poor run of form, he's saved us many times blah blah blah, well true but the fact of the matter is he's the captain of the club, he's seen by everyone as a great, great player so the expectations on him are massive so we expect big performances from him 90% of the time and i'm afraid he's just not producing the goods on a regular basis.
It's not so much his actual performances that are annoying em greatly it's his conduct and manner on the pitch, he often just struts about and goes through the motions, other captains would be doing everything in there power to drag there team through and get the players playing like ****.
His on the pitch approach ought to imrpove. Start playing as a captain Stevie FFS.
