Fernando Torres has played down fears over the hamstring injury which forced him off during Spain's victory over France and insists he will be fit to face Chelsea on Sunday.
The Liverpool striker limped off in Seville after just 23 minutes and immediately there were fears that the Spaniard could be set for a spell on the sidelines.
Spain's team doctor Jorge Candel was quick to come out after the game to play down the severity of the injury.
"The injury of Torres is not of major importance," said Candel.
No risk
Torres then confirmed that he came off at his own request to make sure he did not damage himself with Liverpool's match with Chelsea very much on his mind.
"I preferred not to risk it," said Torres. "I demanded the change.
"I will have medical tests, but I intend to play on Sunday against Chelsea."
The news will be a huge boost to Rafa Benitez, who would have been sweating over the fitness of his prized striker.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

It would appear that it's muscle related. My Spanish colleague assured me that if it is whatever that translates as, it isn't serious.
It seems to translate like a bruised muscle, which I guess would be a dead leg.My balls are hairy, not crystal......

hope our captain reads this..........
**** international football"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.
"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

Anyone who has read Gerrard's book knows how important playing for England is to him, probably even more so now he is captain (albeit temporarily). I don't see why we should begrudge him for that at all.Originally posted by bobbyfallon View Posthope our captain reads this..........

For most players, playing for their country is one of the biggest honours they can achieve, yet some fans seem to hate this and have a go at them for wanting to. I just don't get it personally.
