Thing with Crouch though, how many times when he goes for headers does he give away a freekick? He is a big lad but 99% of the time he leans down on defenders. He has no need to do that if he is good in the air. He is weak in the air unless he is on his own and even then, like today, he isn't the greatest. If that had fallen to Gerrard or Kuyt and probably even Bellamy, I think we wouldve had an equaliser.

Honest to god if we'd won 2-1 today I'd still have mentioned that Pennant was ****e. He was. Sometimes people play ****e. People don't just say it to have some kind of scapegoat, it's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Yeah it annoys me when he gets (rightly) penalised for climbing because he shouldn't need a leg-up should he? On the other hand he is also quite often penalised for just being tall

i cant understand why Pennant wasn't brought off cause he was having a shocker.

Move Stevie to wide right, to hog the touchline with Zenden coming onto the left.

Stevie could and would have delivered far more fropm there and done something with the acres of space that was on the right.

If Rafa was worried about Momo, when we were down and he was looking very close to a sending off he could have stuck Sami on and moved Carra/Agger to hold the midfield.

As far as i am concerned if we had a real go against 10 men and conceeded another, at least we went all out for a point.

I'm not just having a go at Pennant for the sake of it and I really really hope he proves me wrong, but he is not a player I ever thought was good enough to play for Liverpool FC in the first place. Today's performance just reminded me of why I never really rated him. He was a half decent player in a rubbish Birmingham side and he'll never be much more than that IMO. He seems to slow the game down when he gets the ball and doesn't seem to be able to go outside and beat a man. I'm not just saying this because of today as I thought he was ok, but generally I don't rate the lad.

Pennant was alrite. He had noone to pass to. I think Crouch should have gone in earlier.

I just hope there's a simliar about turn amongst the fans re. their opinion of Pennant as there was last season over Momo, but for that to happen the lad needs to show a bit more than he did today tbh, though I really didn't think he was that bad as I've said before.....

He was a ****ing joke of a player today if you ask me. He looked afraid to cross.

If this continues I hope Rafa bins him. Play Garcia, at least he's got a goal in him.

Maybe he's just trying to settle into the team? A lot of the play went through him today, and the balance beween left and right side was totally lopsided. It was his 3rd start, and it was Chelsea. I'm not trying to make excuses for him, but I just think he needs a bit of time to settle and be comfortable in the team.

He said in an interview that rafa's been telling him to do things other managers told him not to (like cutting inside). So it's going to take him some time to change his game. He's started 3 times and played about 190 mins, so to give him that much of the ball against a side like Chelsea I thought was unfair.

I hope we see the best of him in the games to come.

There's not many I can think of will ever get the better of Ashley Cole, and it is unusual for any player to be up & running from the start, he was brought in late in the end and wasn't here for pre-season.

Let's judge at the end of the season.

This sums up my feelings about him to be honest. I really didn't want us to sign him. Given we did he was actually one who did impress pre season so I was hoping that I was going to be proven wrong on this one. Still hoping, but he's merely done what he's always done so far.

That's fair comment too. But those of us who felt he was never the quality of player we needed on the right can't help wincing when he puts in the kind of performances that made us doubt he should join us in the first place.

I think you're going to get question marks over the lad while he's putting in mediocre performances.

I don't think he should be singled out as the scapegoat, but if someone posts saying he was great, then you're going to get people debating that view if they disagree, and saying why.
