dic obviously know this and want him out now. therefore more profit for dic in the long term, and they are definately in it for profit
Hicks apparently has included 45m of working capital for transfers. Assuming mascher came out of that pot we're still looking at 25+m plus whatever Rafa manages to bring in.

    Still a fair sized kitty.

I think DIC are looking at this on a long term horizion, something like 10 years or so. If that is the case then a couple of years up front is no big deal. I wouldn't underplay the prestige side of the purchase though. It seems as though everything the Sheikh does has a component of that.

If you saw the clip that AFII posted that was very obvious. When asked why he was investing so much in Dubai, he said, we want to be the best. Asked Why? He said Why not

I'd agree, he knows what the club will be worth and he's just trying to get as much as he can for the club, holding out for this £500million figure that'd been bounded about.

It's interesting that Gillette hasn't said anything on this, guess he doesn't want to sully his position with DIC. Having said that though, he's not said anythign for a while......

While it's a nice thought mate it's business, I doubt a few fan emails telling them how great they are will change much. The stuff at the match tells them what we want anyway to be fair.

For my part, and i think a lot of people here. While its nice to compete, thats all we should be doing, not being like a chelsea. A mixture of big names and home grown /ressie players is the best bet long term IMO. I do fear that your scenario might come true, and daft as it sounds i would feel a bit uneasy being the next chelsea.

**** that I just want to win playing the best football possible. People forget during our hey day that we outspent everyone else.

The same strategy that Parry, Moores and Hawkspoint touted unsuccessfully around the world for 3-4 years.

Im wondering where this leave Gillets. DICS cards are the only ones on the table and I supect no-one else will or can match DICS bid price (including Hicks or Hicks plus investors). If his financial position is as weak as I think it is (both relative to ownership of Liverpool and on a wider front....dont underestimate the US economic recession......Hicks has really turned the heat up on him)

The only certain thing is there are more twists and turns on the horizon. The use of the media (from both sides) whilst inevitable when it involves a mass and powerful group of stakeholders i.e us the fans is frankly tiresome and Hicks timing before the biggest game of the season is appalling and for that reason alone we should never forgive him. 48 hours is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things

have just posted this on the other thread and thought it was worth reposting... I just rang the number for Tom Hicks on this forum amd this is what I got............

I kid you not - I have just rang that number and I said I was calling from SkySports News and I was hoping for an interview with Tom Hicks for the channel.

The receptionist put me through to his secretary and she asked who I was and I said I was Dan Roan calling from SkySports News in London.

She told me the statement which Tom put out in the last few minutes is how things stand. She also told me that as she explained to me LAST WEEK when we spoke all contact should be made through FINANCIAL DYNAMICS IN LONDON AND YOU SHOULD SPEAK TO JONATHAN BRILL ON 0207 269 7170.

Now who the hell is this guy?

the way i see it hicks is certainly in the driving seat. make no mistake, if he actively seeks a minority investment he will succeed. i reckon the only way he will ever sell his stake is if someone makes an offer close to his own valuation.

dic certainly do not hold the upper hand, i'd be very surprised if the would.highly successful businessmen they're supposed to be yet they counted their chickens again before the hatched it seems ... though yet another twist wouldn't surprise me at all.

hicks might sell his stake to dic but then again he might not, i for one won't hold my breath. whoever comes in does so for his own personal gain.

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has ended negotiations with Dubai International Capital (DIC) over acquiring a 49% stake in the club.
DIC had earlier announced it was in advanced talks to buy a stake in the Anfield side.

But in a statement on the Liverpool website, Hicks said: "I have decided to terminate further discussions with DIC.

"I and my colleagues will continue to explore a number of other options with regard to the ownership of the club."

Talks had been taking place between DIC and Hicks about how a joint relationship would work.

George Gillett, Hicks' co-owner, is understood to have agreed in principle to sell 49% of his 50% stake to DIC, and the other 1% to Hicks to give the Texan a controlling interest.

This needs to be ended once and for all and it really doesn't look to me that it's going to happen anytime soon

                                Delano

DIC have accepted that Hicks, co-owner of Kop Football (Holdings) Limited, will not sell his share in Liverpool in the near future, but would insist on a clause giving them first refusal to buy his stake.

Hicks added: "DIC made it clear that if they invested in the club, they would want it to be managed by committee.

"It is clear to me that such a committee approach would not be in the best interest of Kop, of the club or of the club's loyal and passionate supporters."

Hicks and fellow American Gillett took control in a deal worth £218.9m in February 2007. But their own relationship has broken down and the pair - Hicks in particular - have been the target for strong criticism from supporters.

It is believed Gillett is willing to sell but the situation is further complicated by an agreement between him and Hicks that means one cannot sell his share without the agreement of the other.

But BBC Radio 5 Live's football correspondent Jonathan Legard understands that DIC will not be deterred from their interest in Liverpool.

"DIC are not discouraged and the show will go on," said Legard. "There are plenty more twists and turns to come."

I'd still like to see DICs statement though.
