not keen on hicks but don't agree with this at all, purely on premiership prize money there's only around 2 - 3 Million between 1st and 4th so you're right on that point but the extra revenue comes with being champions and all the spin offs e.g. DVDs, books, scarves etc. to fans plus a better negotiating position with sponsors, this is somewhere we fell down on after Istanbul but hicks will be aware of that and the americans are very good at promotion so there's a massive amount of money up for grabs for the extra investment to win the league

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

That is part of the culture gap between the US and us. He has also only been exposed to American sports and I can assure you that fans attachment to teams in the US is nowhere near as intense as it is with us. There is no sport in the US which is followed anywhere close to the extent that we follow LFC. There is almost no emotional investment by fans into their teams. They just celebrate successes and that's about it. He doesn't get that yet.

Given that his background and context is based on the US it is no suprise that there have been massive faux pas. I think he is learning though, and will start to say and DO the right thing.
I dont think Hicks will EVER learn its ingrained in him

Hes like that bloke off Phoenix Nights - Kenny Dalglish Senior who is just an habitual liar

Hicks' biggest problem is that hes Texan and they traditionally shoot from the hip (the old I say what I like and I like what I bloody well say)

Hes employed a PR firm in the UK but they are virtually redundant because he jumps the gun ahead of him

Even if Hicks shut up and let his PR firm take the lead, I seriously doubt they would understand the peculiarities of Liverpool and Liverpool FC

Funnily enough after reading Gilletts brief few words its apparent that he fully understands the city and the club, in terms of keeping as much as possible in house and not antoganising people by talking bo!!ocks
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

you simply presume that a cl qualification place will be enough for hicks. you simple guess that he won't make any profit if he spent enough money to win the league whereas you probably underestimate the additional income generated by the fact that we then won the title after almost 2 decades.

same goes for the leeds analogy. the re-finance plan determines whether we'll be doing fine or follow leeds down the road. yet that plan remains a secret so far. 442 ran a story about leeds and their financial mess where it became clear that they had no financial strategy whatsoever. plan a was winning and a guaranteed cl place, plan b wasn't there, the emergency plan was selling players.
is hicks a gambler like the leeds owners were? you presume he is but there's no evidence whatsoever that he will as there is no evidence whatsoever that he won't.
Well said, there is far to much speculation and not least interests of parties being mentioned that nobody outside them can have a chance of knowing. For all we know Hicks wants to make us the best team in England again - accourding to his own statement. DIC would most likely say the same if they came in charge.

We have no clue at how the club is run and how the finances look, basically none of us has done a due dilligence and know anything about the agreements. All we know is a few figures mentioned by the press, that has already touted the DIC takeover as done and dusted, so hardly that trustwortyh...

For me however the change of ownership has nothing to do with the money involved atm. For all I know both Hicks, Gillet and DIC could be great businessmen, and proberly are since they have the positions they have. DIC might be richer, but that mainly comes down to savings from the oil, not down to earning it from very littel...

The change in ownership is all about getting H+G out of the club. They have lied way to much, they have unsettled this club in a fashion never seen before and at least one part is to self-promoting in the media. I would prefer the shareliverpool model of getting a Barca or Real kind of setup - I however does not see that to be realistic with the amount they want. Therefore my second choice right now is DIC, as they seem to be the only other option that has the money and interest to buy out the two ****wits in charge right now!

also worth mentioning is that hicks being a born and bread texan means that he would of been well aware of the oil struggle between the texans and arabs which boiled down to a inherent distust between them.

so hicks doing business with dic is a bit like the federation talking to the ferengi

                                Gillett Differs With Hicks
                                By KEN PETERS

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett says he and partner Tom Hicks have some different ideas, the first public indication by Gillett of their split.

"He is a great guy — but he has just got a different perspective on the media," Gillett said Wednesday at the World Congress of Sports, a gathering of sports executives.

Gillett, who also owns the NHL's Montreal Canadiens, has been trying to sell his 50 percent stake in the English Premier League club, but he hasn't commented publicly on talks with a wealthy Dubai consortium.

A potential deal with Dubai International Capital collapsed Monday after Hicks invoked his power of veto under his year-old partnership arrangement with Gillett.

Hicks vowed to prevent DIC becoming an equal partner and was only willing to allow Gillett to sell 98 of his stake while planning to buy the remaining stock himself.

Responding to a question Wednesday, Gillett said he once had heard good advice, which he repeated: "Choose your partner wisely."

Hicks, who also owns baseball's Texas Rangers and the NHL's Dallas Stars, earlier this week terminated talks with DIC, which wanted the club managed by a committee.

Hicks apparently wants to be assured he will still have an influential role with Liverpool, which reached the quarterfinals of the European Champions League on Tuesday with a victory over Inter Milan. He also said he that he will seek other options for potentially buying Gillett's full stake in the club.

The duo's relationship has broken down since they bought Liverpool for $431 million in March 2007, with Gillett's name absent on January statements announcing plans to build a new stadium and the refinancing of the loan used to buy the club last year.

The vehicle used to acquire the club was Kop Football, a holding company headed by Hicks and Gillett and named after a section of the stands in Anfield.
