not enough pace (or trickery) for a RB

I don’t like to be cruel but Kuyt is no centre forward. Perhaps he really could forge a new career for himself as a defensive midfielder or right-back?
I agree he cannot be classed as a striker. If you look at his performance and energy last night plus he is a good tackler and is always in the face of the oppostion when they have the ball. A more defensive role on the flanks would be a great position for him, as he would be eager to get forward to whip in some crosses for the strikers. Another point of note, he produced better performance on the flanks than the likes of Kewell and Pennant have done all season, in fact when he was switched to the left the peanalty area was bombarded with crosses and angled balls, when was the last time we witnessed this?

Kuyt threw his shirt into the crowd at the end and they kept on throwing it back

Changing the subject slightly. I would like to see him used as an offensive right back in a couple of games, I think he would shine in that position
I think he'd be a great little shot stopper.

Credit where it's due, that was Dirk's best performance for a long time last night

His work rate was as good as it always is (nobody has ever questioned this) but he had an end product with his goal, a few decent crosses & beat his opponent a few times on the right & left

I thought Babel was no better than average to be honest and Pennant coming on definetely made a difference as he hugged the touchline and got his crosses in early

We needed big performances last night and pretty much everyone played their part, special mention for Dirk though

Dirk Kuyt goalscoring sensation. We all dream of a team of Dirk Kuyt's!

Seriously though great game from the lad. I don't think anyone bar Gerrard would have done better in his role with the shackles that were obviously still on. Well in Dirk lad.

I'm on a high at the mo and grateful for his goal, but just as i won't change my opinion on the American owners with this result,i won't change my opinion on Kuyt.
Spot on. I'm amazed at how people get blinkered by 1 goal - his passing and control were appalling tonight - as usual. He's an awful player whose departure will strengthen our squad.

I couldn't agree more.I don't think anyones ever doubted his commitment or his effort.

You need to beable to produce moments of brlliance in a game to draw a game you may be losing or win a game you may be drawing.

Last night was just the same as many other frustrating games we have had to tolerate all season until the 85th minute. And with Kuyt in the team, many more to come.

I've watched the game again this morning and you're dead wrong mate. Dirk (without being spectacular) had a very good game. He was our best crosser, great tracking back and hardly ever gave the ball away. He also made very intelligent runs pulling their defense apart for 90 minutes. I feel you're a little blinkered by his dreadful recent form.

                          Oh and he scored.
