    Pennant (and other deadwood)

Has he got a future at the club?

Rafa seems to have lost faith in him and he is appearing in fewer and fewer matchday squads.

For me the lad has been given enough time and he just isn't good enough. He's done okay but for me he's fallen short and should be moved on.

Kewell looks a nailed-on goner, as does Riise.

I think now, as the season enters crunch stage, we'll begin to see a clearer picture of who Rafa does and doesn't trust. For my money, Pennant, Kewell and Riise will be the first out of the door.

I think he'll start against Inter.

Not sure about pennant at least he is a real winger. It's going to depend on if there is someone we can bring in.

        Hope not.

        ****house player.

Poor final ball and not a goal threat.

When Dirk Kuyt is getting in the team ahead of you in a position which isn't his best, and it's (supposedly) your best, you know you're in trouble.

I was actually thinking about this when the squad was announced for today's game - think Pennant's a gonner too.

Agree with the one's above, Kewell sadly can't cut it at the very top anymore. As for Riise (I do like the fella) - he's got just over a season left on his contract with no mention of a new one, and again he's appearing less and less these days.

I think two from Voronin / Kuyt / Crouch will go too. Hopefully not Crouch as he's a good 3rd choice striker.

          Hmm, anyone else?!

****ing hell, I had forgotten all about Voronin.......seems Rafa has too..........

Hope we sell Aurelio (prefer Riise as a back up), Finnan (no longer good enough), Pennant, Voronin, Crouch, Kewell, and if a great offer for kuyt comes in then him too. I dont think we would miss any of these players even if Kuyt is playing better recently.

I think the fact Pennants lack of progress as a player certainly puts his place in the squad in question. I like him as an option but his failure to build in any way on his early season form (even then he was still not offering a threat on goal), injury or not means that we have to look to upgrade that position.

We need players who can be leaders in hard times/matches and that JP is not. I also think we would benefit from having fewer mid-20s players who are not top quality in the squad to make room for both proven winners and hungry youth. All that said I think he is a decent player and if he were to suddenly show he was learning something (like for me Babel has done of late) I would consider keeping him.

                Isn't Voronin injured still?

Voronin has been injured. He came back to training a few days ago though so he may be back in the team soon

Aurelio is better then headless Riise (another one of GH's athletes), Finnan should stay as a squad member and i'd keep Crouch as he offers a different option to a normal striker.

Pennant, Riise, Kewell, Itanje, Voronin ,Kuyt are the ones that need shipping asap. This list shows us how the squad is devoid of attacking threats. No pace, no goal scoring threat, little guile.
                      We come not to play.

Kewell and Pennant are history, based upon Babel and Kuyt being chosen ahead of them. If Rafa has serious money to spend in the summer, I am sure we will see a top quality left and right midfield/wingers coming into the squad.

What do we think Pennant would fetch this summer? £5m?

                          Riise about the same?

                          Plus £8-10m for Carson.

                          Voronin £1m?

                          Guthrie £2-3m?

We're looking at at least £20m incoming.

Hopefully we can add Kuyt to that list for around £5m or if Newcastle want him, its around £7.5million
