Anyone think Rafa will cash in on Xabi, seeing that we already have 3 other CMs and we could stick with Guthrie as a 4th choice CM?
If Rafa sticks w/4231 Xabi will be competing with El Jefecito and Lucas for two positions. No way should we let him go.

The signing of Pennant was a strange one really when you think about it.

As soon as Rafa came in, Owen went and we got Nunez in return. He didn't really do it so we messed around for a couple of seasons looking at right wingers and when Rafa finally decided to splash out, it was on Pennant.

He isn't good enough for us when it comes down to basics. It was a poor signing when you consider how much he actually cost.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

i think crouch will leave in the summer. he's had 3 years now of a 4 year contract and can, according to some sort of article in FIFA land, now buy out his last year for 576,000 grand (his wages for the year) and then leave us which is what i imagine he will do.

Pennant must go....wigan, derby, birmingham standard.

finnan good enough for 1st team rotation and so will stay.

the last couple of games aurelio has done good but i'd wait and see if he can sustain it till the end of the season....Riise must also go!!!

Bit frustrating with JP, he has alot of good qualities and as i've said a few times before at times he's quality and he's got alot of good attributes for a winger - pace, bit of skill etc but his crossing lets him down big time and he's actually very lightweight, knocked off the ball too easily.
His goals record is **** also.

Yep, he could defo be on his way come the summer.

Not that strange. We were after Alves couldn't afford him so at least Pennant was an upgrade on Nunez.

Why would he. No-one else in the top4 will have him. His chances of winning the league, playing in finals is better here than elsewhere.

Did you know that he actually scored a hat trick on his debut for the Arse. Used them all up I guess.

crouch IMO is all about the football....he simply wants to play regular football and if rafa gets the funds to buy better players in the summer then crouch could find himself 4th choice next year. he could play for teams like spurs, villa, man city and challenge for UEFA cup places or even the 4th CL place at these clubs. it would also help him play regular for england as capello seems to play players who are playing regular. plus, again IMO, i reckon rafa only wants to give crouch a new contract to stop him leaving for a pittance. i'm a footballer myself and nothing would stop me leaving a club to get regualr football at another even if i loved the club i was leaving. Unless your teddy sherigham and can play till your 42 () he will have another 6 years maybe of pro football at a high level....why would anyone want to spend it on a bench?

So after two years of looking and realising that we couldn't land Alves, the second best option was Pennant and he was worth £7million?

We were linked with Victor and Simao in that January transfer window yet despite the players that we could have signed, we got a player from relagated Birmingham.

He was the only one we could get.

I think given our budget and given the way Sevilla/Porto do business this could well be true.

edit: is it Porto Simao played for? hmm...

                          edit: Benfica, thats the one

Rafa seems to have lost faith in him and he is appearing in fewer and fewer matchday squads.

For me the lad has been given enough time and he just isn't good enough. He's done okay but for me he's fallen short and should be moved on.

Kewell looks a nailed-on goner, as does Riise.

I think now, as the season enters crunch stage, we'll begin to see a clearer picture of who Rafa does and doesn't trust. For my money, Pennant, Kewell and Riise will be the first out of the door.
                            You think Pennamnt is deadwood?

Spurs are also interested in Carson so hopefully the highest bidder takes it all. Also 6m is way too less, between 8 and 10 million would do
