Rafhina for RB 8mil as had been quoted would be def worth a shot i dont think anymore else we really would be over paying at the momment in his carrer.

I expect we could move arbeloa to LB and have Insua as a young player learning before taking the full role.

Allthough with Rafhina and Insua our CB would have to Agger ad Skrtel because the space left by both would seriously cause Carra all sorts of problems.

I think we were also linked to Matias Fernandez he can play both sides has great skill and we were linked to heavily in the Jan transfer window.

Now if we can get him our right hand side would be very quick and skillfull thats for shore.

I think the price bounded about was 12mil and would def be worth it.

He can also can play through the middle much like a right sided Babel really and the movement both players would cause with overlapping skillful full backs would really be something.

So thats 20 mil and we are sorted.

We could just promote a youngster in the forward possition.

Alves is better attacking than Rafinha.

Rafinha is better in defense. Alves would probably cost £30m+ and Rafinha £11.5m.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

So DJS apart from Owen as 3rd choice and Alves who are the players LFC should sign? Despite lots of criticism (and theres nothing wrong with that) of other peoples choices you havent named names yet.

In any case, i'd take Alves happily, though he'd be too expensive.

Lahm would also be a superb signing, but again, i cant see it.

Striker-wise, Berbatov would suit torres beautifully, but once again, i doubt it'd happen.

As for wingers, this is the hardest one as there's so few out there.

I really dont think there'd be much point in signing Wayne Bridge, he's hardly the amazing LB we need and we'd end up looking for someone else to replace him before too long.

In a 4231, where would you put Diego? Cos it surely means Gerrard would have to be shifted out to the right again...which would piss him right off.

How much of a goal threat does Capel carry? Because in that system, the front four must all carry a serious goal threat.Unless he's capable of scoring 10 goals a season, there'd be little point.

Im not having a go, Im just asking if you have some players you want to put your name to becuase other people have done it and you have disputed or been critical of those choices.

whatever happened to barraghan? I'm sure i remember him being talked up in the same way as insua.

If he's still ours i'd bring him back to compete for a full back position. we can then just buy a winger and striker. that'd do me fine for summer targets/

we have a buy back clause on him if im not mistaken, dont know if he's ready do do a job for us.

id happily stick with arbeloa at rb and finnan as back up if that meant we could spend more elsewhere.

also the obvious thing this transfer window is that rafa buys a few top class players not loads of 5-6 mill squad players, unless of course they are good enough at that price.

i think we should sell crouch though, unless of course rafa starts to play him. theres no point having him on the bench when we could sell him for at least 10 million squid, which could be put towards another player.

30-40 mil net should do us really.

I agree to an extent. He now has the personnel to play this formation effectively. However if given the funds I am sure he would like to better players in some positions. IMO fullbacks, kuyt even Babel having quality competition for the same position.

Finnan, Riise etc could go, Aurelia, Insua and Arbeloa could be 2nd choice or more defensive alternatives to new more attacking fullbacks.

The other concern I have with this new "4231" formation is that the players of quality out there wont have played in the Premier League, as very few English teams play this way, so we'll be looking to add 3 top draw players into the squad/first team that'll need time to settle and get used to the rough n tumble, which could well undermine the season before it begins.

thats why its important to buy absaloute quality mate, torres and babel have slotted in just fine, its only when you go down the nunez/morientez route they generally struggle

we need a world class winger, or a world class attacking midfielder.

an attacking full back would be nice...but its not essential to spend a heap of cash on one. If we can get Rafinha for the prices being suggested then we should, but IMO we shouldnt be spending alot on our defense.

So i figure we can splurge on a real top class attacking midfielder...like Diego or VDV.

Maybe try get Giles Barnes from Derby when they go down. He's not going to cost much, and could really develop into a cracking player.

£40m should be enough to get a winger/attacking mid, attacking fullback and Barnes quite comfortably.

We will also make quite a bit from sales (if we do sell).

so a net spend of £20m isnt without possibilities

I'd argue that only Torres has slotted in perfectly, and he's a bit of a freak of nature () Babel has done well in patches, and is looking like he's found his feet, but it is March and most of the season has already been played.

                              My shopping list:

Rafinha - judging by people's knowledge of him, sounds good and would be my choice above the over-priced Alves.

Santa Cruz - Has proved he can play in the Premiership, would provide excellent back-up for Torres, and I believe would compliment him should we play two up top.

A **** hot winger/attacking talent - I haven't a clue who this could/should be, but I'd be willing to invest heavily with this one (up to £25m) to get the right man.

I think it's most important to get some attacking quality in the summer.

We do need a striker to either play alongside Torres or cover for him. Who we get very much depends on what formation we decide on (and I really ****ing hope we do decide on one as opposed to buying 10 players and then not knowing what to do with them again). If we stick with a 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3, it'll have to either be a highly rated youngster or a more experienced, but less in demand, pro.

Regardless of formations though, we need to address our over reliance on Gerrard (and perhaps Babel) to carry the attacking (and goal) threat from midfield:

Jeremy Menez - is in less demand than the likes of Ben Arfa, Nasri et al, but is a quality player. Would provide pace, versatility and width if we need it.

Van Der Vaart - a major goal threat and is definitely ready for a move after whoring himself to Valencia last year and Juventus this. Whether he'd be willing to come to England I don't know, but he'd be cheaper than Diego.

Full-backs are a nice to have, but not a necessity in the summer.
