    Hughes: Cruz is better than Torres

    The Rovers boss is well aware that his Liverpool counterpart Rafa Benitez pulled off a masterstroke in paying over £20million to Atletico Madrid for Spanish international frontman Torres last summer. At present he has fired 29 goals in all competitions and been nominated for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.

    However, Hughes feels his own summer signing, Santa Cruz, has been the biggest bargain after seeing the Paraguayan international find the net 18 times for Rovers already this term following his cut-price £3.5million switch from Bayern Munich.
    "Roque and Torres would have to be up there as the two best buys of the summer," said Hughes. "But, pound-for-pound, I'm sure ours was the better buy.
    "Torres always looks like he will score a goal, but I suppose when you pay £20-odd million that's the minimum you expect!

          very misleading title. Hughes has never said cruz was better than torres....no-one is that ****ing stupid. hughes has a point though, POUND-FOR-POUND i'm sure you'll find cruz was the better bit of business. but dont have a go at me, we all know torres is the better buy.

                  As far as pound for pound goes, you can where Hughes is coming from. Got a knack for picking up good strikers on the cheap.

                  Just a suprise that like McCarthy, no on else thought Cruz was worth the small fee paid by Blackburn.

                  Hughes could have at least doubled his money on benni in the summer and no doubt he will have a chance to double his money on Cruz in the summer. Would have to say that Hughes has proved he has an eye for a bargain.

                        You are Wrong IMO. Torres scores 3/2 times the goals cruz has yet Torres cost about 6/1 times the money. And he's playing in a far inferior team. Of course Cruz was the better value, they picked him up for virtually nothing and he's made their season. I always knew you had no sense. Actually I could be confusing you with another poster there

                          Yes you can. Torres is the better value if you can afford it. He will only get better. I wouldn't say the same of Cruz.

                          They could probably sell Cruz for around £9m in the summer, we could probably get around £40m for Torres. But whilst Cruz's potential fee will be a one time only deal, Torres value will likely increase as the seasons go by.

                          So for a club of our size, Torres was the best value for money.

                              Torres is a far superior player and it will be proven in time. So my post was a statement of belief. Hence why i made the point of stating "IMO".
