'Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple.'
What a ridiculous thread. Santa cruz was good business and value for money but it doesn't matter coz we had the money to buy someone better. For instance I drive a Fiesta which I think was value for money being a student but my neighbour can afford a Porsche. I know which one I'd rather have if I had the money.
So you think they'd have liked to buy Torres andmost probably put themselves in debt and have had no money at all for any other players?
I think they'd have preffered to buy a top striker for pittence who wasn't Torres even though he's not AS good as Torres, while keeping the club's finances in the positive and also having money for other signings. Maybe I'm wrong though.
Ah, but then they could sell Torres in the summer and double their money........
SC is clearly better value. think about the respective wages!
IT may turn out that Torres will eventually be better value
but at the moment its a bit of a no brainer.
It does NOT mean he is the better striker
but Blackburn have paid less for each goal than we have for torres. (though i suppose we do need merchandising in there for the total cost and income per palyer and divide it by goals.)
on a side note RM had to take out a short term loan of £25M ish as there cashflow has gone down the pan since beckham left.
Newcastle should have gone for Hughes. I know the King Kev revolution is now in full swing, what with them finally winning some games n all, but Hughes has done a fantastic job at Blackburn and shown a real eye for a player with some of his buys.

Strange discussion really, I think Hughes has a point here, beacuase Cruz is a great player and getting him at that price was a really good deal. However we got a great deal on torres as well, as torres if he didn't want to leave atletico to come here, would probably cost about 30 million instead of 20.
I'm pretty sure Rafa would have wanted Cruz and would have been more than happy to pay the fee of 3,5m if he knew he was available for that price AND we didn't have crouch who is a very similar player to cruz.
When we bought Torres we needed a player who was very mobile and could play alone up front and cruz isn't that player. Rafa got us Torres who might actually be the best in the world for this position, surely the best for his age.
But pound for pound if you need a striker any type of striker, then cruz is probably the best bargain.
But for players like torres who are young and among the best in the world, there are no real bargains, with torres we probably came as close as possible.....
For ex-scum, I've got a good deal of respect for Mark Hughes. He's one of the best British managers of his generation, and looks like a no-nonsense type of guy.
I wonder if he will get the chance to manage a big club ?
