This is just a drop in the ocean anyway lads. It feels like a kick in the guts now but I'm 100% certain that we're gonna go through anyway in maybe the greatest triumph that Rafa has brought us Istanbul aside. I just can't wait for the second leg.

It was more a lack of game intelligence than that he don't can use his right foot.

Riise is a good tackler and he always give 100% but he lacks game intelligence and vision. That is why he is found out of position a lot.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

All he had to was use the outside of left foot and fling it to the Centenary Stand.

He isn't the most clever player around but that isn't his fault.

Despite one of the most suicidal moments of defending I've seen in a long time, and a very poor season overall, JAR has been a long servant to the club and given us some great moments over the years, whatever happens in the second leg that won't be his defining moment in a red shirt as far as I'm concerned.

right i agree, he had a mare and it is a ****ing shocker of a mistake - but that could have happened to anyone, it could have happend to skrtel, carra, gerrard - in fact, steven gerrard one of the best, most gifted footballers in the world who has everything in is locker, game intelligence and vision in abundence - scored an own goal for chelsea in the carling cup final - it was a ****ing mistake, he misjudged the ball, shouldn't have gone for the header etc etc etc but he ****ed up, was unlucky and he scored for chelsea. - To say someone has ****ed up and scored an own goal due to lack of game intelligence/vision/lack of jedi mind powers is just ****ing bollocks. It was a very bad mistake, that could have and has happened to anyone, whether they are the greatest player in the world or djimi traore

Haven't read all the thread but my take is that Riise should have headed the ball back to where it came from!

It's easy to point out what a player should have done in the aftermath of the incident I know, but wouldn't it have been easier for him to just head it back out for a corner rather than try and lift it over the bar?!

The obvious answer would have been to swing his right foot at it - but as he's so left/one footed anyway he chose the most difficult option of them all, and it cost him/us! It irritates me to see professional footballers having to take another option rather than use their 'weaker' foot in situations like last night's - I play local football and even I always try to use my 'weaker' foot when needed rather than try to adjust to use my favoured right peg, so you'd have thought these guys would be able to do it with ease as they practice day in, day out!

Anyway, I'm not putting all the blame on Riise, mainly as I like the guy, but the cross (which was a great one in a dangerous area) should have been prevented in the first place, so in my opinion Riise wasn't the only one at fault for the goal!

So, we move on, and as it's a two legged affair we have a second crack at it - so all is not lost (apart from that away goal which does make it a little more difficult now)!

Nah, Riise is on Roman's payroll, part of a great Russian/UEFA conspiracy designed to stop us getting to the final. He should be shot at dawn.

I'd like to know what we're going to achieve by slating Riise?

It's happened and there's nowt we can do now, other than go down there and get the result.

If we can score 1st over there, we'll do it.

                                that's spot on

the other thing is he could have tried the out swing with his left boot if he didn't want to use his right, why the feck would you header the ball from so low down?
