I was screaming at MAsch to just pump the ball upfield. I don't know if he mi**** it or was trying to pass to someone but with 1 minute to go we should have been trying to run dowm the clock. Maybe we were naive or maybe we werejust unlucky either way we were the better team by a country mile, Chelsea look a shadow of the team they were under Maureen. I don't know how they still have that record at the bridge. I think United will muller them this weekend and we will score there next week no doubt in my mind whatsoever. I am quietly confident in getting to the final. If anything last nights own goal will unite the team even more. We are going into the game with the mentality of needing a goal rather than protecting a lead.Originally posted by DJS View PostThe whole thing would have been avoided if Mascherano had been able to beat 15 yards with his lame attempt at a clearance. But of course, it's Riise who'll be the fall guy.
The point is, you can look in several places and say 'why did that happen'...why didnt Mascher clear? Why did Arbeloa let the cross come in? Why didnt Reina claim the cross? You can that all day but sometimes, freak incidents happen and you cant help them.
Apportioning blame is wrong, we need to stick together and remain unified. Our only hope of getting the job done is if team spirit is 150%.
We have to stick together on this one, no finger pointing, no slating and no division.Dare we believe

"Johnnn Arne Riiise .. ooh aahh.... i wanna knowwwowow how you scored that goal"
Come on lads, you can't tell me the irony hasnt crossed your mind.
You'll have seen my other posts as above and whilst its a crime that riise is limited by his one footedness, it was a freak incident and you can blame at least 3 other people for that alone, that's not including the missed chances at the other end.
let it go. we have a challenge in one match that will define our season. We have to win. isnt this how we like it? I'm backing the boys to do it and I think that the away goal will give them the complacency and favourites tag that we want them to have. whilst as things stand we are going out.
so its half time and we are looking at being knocked out. been here before haven't we...

heading it at that low a height made the difference. he obviously was tring to head it away from goal but an inch the wrong way is all it takes. misjudgement, dodgy bounce... whatever. it was a tricky situation.Originally posted by Taffy View PostHaven't read all the thread but my take is that Riise should have headed the ball back to where it came from!
It's easy to point out what a player should have done in the aftermath of the incident I know, but wouldn't it have been easier for him to just head it back out for a corner rather than try and lift it over the bar?!
The obvious answer would have been to swing his right foot at it - but as he's so left/one footed anyway he chose the most difficult option of them all, and it cost him/us! It irritates me to see professional footballers having to take another option rather than use their 'weaker' foot in situations like last night's - I play local football and even I always try to use my 'weaker' foot when needed rather than try to adjust to use my favoured right peg, so you'd have thought these guys would be able to do it with ease as they practice day in, day out!
Anyway, I'm not putting all the blame on Riise, mainly as I like the guy, but the cross (which was a great one in a dangerous area) should have been prevented in the first place, so in my opinion Riise wasn't the only one at fault for the goal!
So, we move on, and as it's a two legged affair we have a second crack at it - so all is not lost (apart from that away goal which does make it a little more difficult now)!
a kick in the nuts for sure. but our cup final is on wed and we're gonna win it.

I still can't work you outOriginally posted by AFII View PostI don't have a clue to why Riise is picked ahead of Insua.
We have the best young left fullback in the world and he isn't playing and can't even get a place ahead of Riise.
The world is full of mysteries.
Do you really believe what you write?!
