Heaven forbid Torres goes through a dry spell, or gets his head turned by an offer from abig Spanish club in a couple of years time...will we turn on him then as well??

Riise has been a great servant to the club over the past 7 years, but sadly he's lost confidence in his abilities. But I think the point he's making is if he is being let go, the club should at least do him the courtesy of telling him, which it seems they have yet to do.
Riise has been nothing short of a liability for two years, he is someone who actually makes the team much worse whenever he comes in to it. I dont think there's any need to mention how average his passing is, how poor his crosses are, how he wastes possession with shots from ridiculous positions that usually end up in the stands.

His poor positional play affects the whole shape of the defence. It's no coincidence that Chelsea took the attacking initiative in the tie at Anfield in the last 20 mins and around the exact time Riise came on. The defence was being dragged all over the place and the shap of the team became very disjointed. If you notice, Riise also got dragged out of position for 2 of the Chavs' 3 goals on Wed - he then made a woeful attempt to block Drogba's shot for the first, and his poor positional play gave Anelka loads of space to get the ball in for their third. If we had a more disciplined left back in there instead of him it is quite possible both goals could have been avoided.

As for your point re him demanding the club to do him the courtesy of letting him know what the state of play is re his contract, the writing is on the wall for the soft ****e, but clearly he is too thick to see it.

He's so poor positionally that for the previous two seasons he's been an integral part of our back four, one of the strongest back fours in the premiership. And as a maurading full back, occassionally he will get caught out of position, that's just a risk you take by having attacking fullbacks...happens to Aurelio, it'll happen to Insua/Rafinha/Durgen whoever comes in.

And if Torres had buried his chances, it wouldn't of mattered if Chelsea had come back at us, cos the confidence would've been there to hit them on the counter...in those final 20 minutes at Anfield, just how many chances did the Chavs have by the way? I don't remember being worried by too much, but i do remember that Arbeloa should never have let the ball come in from that side, that Reina should've got a hand too it, possibly even claimed it, and that Riise's could have used his right peg...and still sliced it into his net, and then everyone would be saying "should've headed it".

And yes, i still think he deserves to be told if he has no future at the club. Or is it the Liverpool way to just let a player go without a word of warning?

I don't really get this attitude from the players who say they have nothing prove. In my opinion the players needs to prove that they're good enough to wear Liverpool shirt in every match they play.

And what did we win last year when Riise was an integral part of one of the strongest backs 4s in the Prem? **** all. And if you recall the first goal we conceded in Athens was from a soft free kick Riise gave away. In the big matches it's the small details that will invariably decide the outcome, and sadly Riise has the capabilities (or perhaps that should be ineptitude) to swing those small details in the opposition's favour, as he did v Chelsea twice in both ties.

If Riise would have sliced it in with his right, it would be down to his own ineptitude and poor technique, and nothing to do with making the wrong choice when deciding whether he should have gone for it with his right leg or with his head. There's no debate there; as poor as Riise is with his right if he went for it with his right leg he would have had a much better chance of controlling the direction of the ball than trying to head it when it was near to the ground. He made the wrong choice. All Riise had to do was prevent Anelka getting to the ball - doesn't necessarily mean he had to head it away or kick it away with his right, he could have cushioned it, blocked it, anything would have been better than what he did.

If it is Rafa's intention to cut Riise loose, which I sincerely hope it is, I'm releived he has chosen not to tell him yet. Riise is ****ing **** enough as it is when he thinks he's playing to impress to win a new contract - can you imagine how **** an indifferent and unmotivated Riise would be?

Bye Riise have fun at Stoke, Hertha Berlin or wherever.

Riise has terrific stamina and also carries a cannon of a shot and that's about it, not what we need to take us to the next level.

Aston Villa, he's probably one of the nameless Rafa is trying to exchange, good ploy there by Rafa strengthen your team and weaken the opposition.
                    We come not to play.

i think what some here have missed,is liverpool have ballsed up again.we now have a player with 1 year left on his contract, therefore if we sell we miss out on a couple of extra million we would have got last summer when he had 2yers left.also we now have a player who could be spiteful and sit on his remaining year like some players do and go on a bosman next summer.as i have said liverpool have once again messed up and let a player get into the final year of his contract.
                        who's arsed?

Good point that, i really think he'll be shipped this summer for relatively cheap or given a new contract and sold for a bit more the following season like what happen with Traore.

I bet Riise would have been sold last summer if we managed to get Heinze as Rafa intended

His cross to Stevie G earned us our first goal in Istanbul.

Irrespective of anything else (& I include the Chelsea OG) that deserves thanks and respect wherever he ends up.
