and if it does Rafa will not risk him, play Alonso and Gerrard in the middle with Garcia or Pennant on the right.

Its not ideal but as long as momo takes adequate food and water after dark, he should not have too much trouble playing 90 minutes of football. not much more than 12-13 hours of daylight in a british september. evening kickoffs would be the major issue when he might have gone that long without drinking.

From what i know of islam, being a footballer wouldnt allow dispensation as its not essential.

i know some iranian people and in ramadan, its a feast/party EVERY night of ramadan round at theirs.

          * Sorry if i came across as a cock in this thread Graham. I meant no harm, the only person i think is an Islamophobe is Fredo
Just about sums up the whole sad situation. G is a good bloke though he just got the wrong end of the stick IMO, nobody's accusing him of anything other than a slightly differing opinion.

as usual some fantatsicly short sighted at best or ignorant at worst views are being displayed when it comes to the muslim faith.

momo will be fine during the most important month of the year in his spiritual life. he will continue to be boss and eat before and after the sun comes up.

            it's a non issue

I hope that I haven't offended you Carrsim or Muslims (I don't know you or your background so apogies if I'm off the mark)

I merely know about Ramadam from Muslim friends at work - they have said that is a pretty easy task to partake in due to their beliefs, as such a sacrifice is easy for their god. They have however mentioned that it does get very difficult in the fourth week due to the natural human needs for water, protein, nutrients et al, and these are just programmers not athletes.

Regardless of ones faith the human body is70% ish water and therefore needs replensishing - the original question is quite vald, especially if Momo plays at 5:15 after 10 hours without food or water. Regardless of ones faith or dedication the human body is going to be crying out for hydration, and the avarage footballer runs approx 12km per game...thats not healthly if you cannot replenish the bodies water. I'm not mocking the dedication, far from it, simply pointing out the limitations of the human body with or without faith.

Undoubtedly. At this level something like having a couple of beers the night before would make a massive difference, let alone fasting the day you play! The thing is we don't really know much about what Momo does during Ramadan to make sure he can play to his max. Maybe he doesn't fast on match days and makes the days up after Ramadan (perfectly acceptable according to the Koran), maybe he has some other way of dealing with it.

Yes this is the salient point of this thread, before it all went pete tong (as far as i know Pete holds no widely known religious beliefs). Islam ain't above the needs of the human body/modern athlete. But according to last year it didn't stop him playing and keeping his place so we should have nothing to worry about.

As expected this thread has went off topic! I think momo is going to miss a few games during this month.

Im a muslim, and fasting can get extremely hard mainly due to the fact of lack of water and will eventually take affect on energy levels.

For a footie player, it would be 10times harder. Espicially during training, the lack of water would make it near impossible, espicially if there was alot of running involved.

Even if he did manage training, his energy levels woudlnt be the highest during match time.

I wish Didi hamaan was still at the club, he would be a good replacement for momo.

Bolo zenden isnt performing the way i though he wud, and he aint no defensive mid.

Momo fasted during ramadaan last year and he confirmed this when he gave an interview to a local journalist which the article was posted on the official lfc website.

I am sure when fasting while training, playing sat/sun matches and mid week CL games must be tough for Momo but its all abut sacrifice. Also weather plays a huge part in certian countries such england and canada where i am residing at the moment, you dont feel hungry or thirsty as compared to countries like zambia, middle east and some asian countries where its summer right now.In zambia at this time of the year its pretty hot around 32/35 degrees.

I am certain that Rafa will take caution with him in training sessions not making him over do it.On Saturday he looked great so i dont think he should have any problems.

I believe Naybet also fasted during ramadan while he was at spurs and he also mentioned that he has been doing it since deportivo days.

It's not illegal to drink water in public during Ramadan. I lived there for a few years myslf, my father still lives there and I have several Saudi friends who still live there. Drinking and eating in public during Ramamadan is frowned upon but IT IS NOT ILLEGAL and you cannot get arrested for it. It is however seen as a sign of disrespect, but nothing more than that...

                                Presumably you're not being serious?

The only places where you can get alcohol in Saudi are private homes where people usually make their own booze (sidiki - absolutely grim ****e), embassies or compounds.

As for prostitutes, although you occasionaly hear stories of the odd Ethiopian or Phillipino offering themselves from some ****e compound it's so rare that I reckon there are probably more prostitutes in Kandahar or Basra.
