Or more likely, you can't answer my original questions.

i've answered your question. if winning a cup saves your job its a success. if you win the league in your 1st season, win it a few more times over a 10 yr period, one year going the season unbeaten then that success will also buy you the patience of fans during the lean seasons.

you just can't accept my answer.

my opinion on rafa this season was really simple - if he wasn't competing at xmas we should cut our losses and let him go and this would have given his replacement time to get up and running and start the following season with a long enough lead in period to compete. clearly rafa should not be let go at xmas this year as he is top of the league so judgment should wait until the end of the season. I don't see why this very reasonable stance is causing you difficulties.

why was souness, evans, houllier all sacked if not because they could not deliver the title.

only a prick would think otherwise.
So you want us to be like Chelsea? Madness.

When we start going backwards with Rafa, thats the time to get rid.

whilst rafa is progressing, its best we stick with him.

the time, upheaval and cost associated with replacing him with another manager would be too much for us to bear in this economic climate tbh so rafa will be staying.

rage, its taken rafa 4 bloody long hard years to re-generate our club from grass roots up. he hasnt just dealt with a trophy winning 11 but he has been instrumental in transforming our underachieving youth/reserve set-up from the ground up.
you really think that had we not been top or realistically challenging then a rafa replacement would have enough time in half a season to prepare for a serious title push the following year after smashing down the foundations already set and srarting again?
              please mate, just stop now

Well, you said that if he doesn't win it he should be sacked. Grant got to a CL final, lost the league by 2 points and got sacked. Is that what you want to happen to Rafa?

thats failure for Rage, so think he would want him sacked. Win or nothing in rage's book, no excuses. He is consistent though

Usually the question to ask of the Rafa-bashers is name a realistic target who can come in and do a better job

btw rage - I know it's your hunger for the title that makes you like this, but Rafa is the man to win us the title We are still a work in progress and will always be, but I doubt we have quitethe team he wants just yet..and players have let him down IMO..the buck obviously stops with him but he can't account for players playing ****e

there was never any expectation on grant - no-one had ever heard of him and i actually see 5 seasons as 4 more than 1 that he got. i actually think grant was on a hiding to nothing, just not a big enough name in the end so a slip away from the champions league and in the title race till the last game was maybe seen as over-achievement, who knows

why does my opinion grate so many posters on here? its like stick or twist i suppose. i'm happy to stick with a winning formula and i hope that rafa delivers this year. if he fails well then how many more seasons would you give it? 1, 2 maybe 3?

If you would care to read about the years when Ferguson was nearly fired, you would see, that it was by no means a success, but it gave him a little breathing room.
But a cup-win was by no means a success from the start of season. Especially not after several years in the manager-seat.

if rafa won the fa cup would it count as a successful season?
