The Top of the League Thread

It shows how low we've sunk to be celebrating being top at the end of October or so. I wouldn't be quite so excited but I thought may as well celebrate the fact whilst we still can.

Spent enough time in my life being pissed off with ****e we are in the league so I'm gonna make the most of it. What ever happens I think that as long as we at least challenge for the title then everyone will at least be partly pleased.

Last season Chelsea and the Mancs came in the top two of the league and also both got to the final of the Champions League. This showed the gap we were competing against. We have done wonders to get even close to their level, let alone surpass them at this very early stage.

Have we SUNK? imo we have raised our level considerably, but the cash available to our main rivals has enabled them to raise their level even higher.

Or did you mean as fans, and our expectations of winning the Title, if so, ignore the first bit.

Kuyt, so intelligent again, the throw from Arbeloa was too high really, so he realised he needed to give his header that bit of extra oomph to get it into the danger zone...could have just flicked it on, but he sprung up bounced it off his nut and hey presto....panic stations in the Chav box.

So true about Kuyt but of all the analysis I've seen only Souness on RTE has given credit to Keane for his part in the goal. He didn't let Terry get anything on the header out and ran across Alonso's shot to add further confusion to to the situation. He didn't have a brilliant game but did have an important contribution.

More the fans and expectations but pretty much the club overall I guess. I'm not meaning to have a dig at anyone either, it's just a fact. Back in the day I'm pretty sure everyone took our success for granted, bit like the Mancs now.

But I must say that with the club in the state it currently is of the field, this run could either be our saving grace or sucker punch. Mind, with the Mancs on 17 we need it.

Danny mate I hear you but also on the otherhand .. success breeds success and we have been beaten down for a very long time .. real belief wins titles .. This is by far the strongest squad we have had in a very very long time

Nobody is getting ahead of thereselves in this thread .. we have all been knocked back too many times .. but still its nice to be the only unbeaten team in the Lg, top of the Lg AND 6 points from 6 in the Top 4 Lg.

We have good reason to be positve but I am sure none of us are taking anything for granted or thinking whoppty ****ing do about our current posiion.

We are in the driving seat, now we have to stay there week in week out till the end of the season.

If anything, we are celebrating progress. People wouldn't berate a Hull City fan for it because they are overachieving but for us, it is rightly expected that we be at or near the top at this stage so our early celebrations and back slapping comes across as slightly odd or even nauseating for some.

For me, I am ****ing happy as a pig in **** mate. Progress or no progress, we are top of the league right now and I'm celebrating just that fact.

Don't get me wrong Nicey, I'm loving this thread and I'm delighted you created it and keep updating it.

I'm hoping this can turn out to be the biggest and longest thread ever created on Est 1892. With luck and belief this could yet surpass the infamous DIC thread. I'm delighted to be coming on here and see even the likes of Rage, Rashid and Sarb being upbeat and positive.

For the past two years on this site I've constantly had to post stuff to keep everyone seeing the positive or realistic side. Now I'm enjoying this and like everyone else being very positive. If anything else I find myself posting comments that could be viewed as negative!

Working in manchester, i'm loving it at the moment...altho, i've yet to say anything myself. I'm buzzing on the inside, but externally i'm being blase about it all, letting the mancs come to me, and then saying "well, it's only October" etc...does their heads in, cos when they win they don't half big it up.

That must be hard working with the tossers They probably expect you to start mouthing off cause it's been a while since we've been in this good a position.

My brother in law is a scum fan (along with half my son's football team) but I'm keeping it together for now as we all know it's early days.

i wouldn't put it as bluntly as that.

definitely happy with how things are going now but its just 3 points in october, it definitely guarantees that we challenge beyond christmas though.

things can change very quickly though, and as you say i would never ever tempt fate with 2 teams like chelsea and united chasing you, they are the best 2 teams in europe and they have the experience of winning this league aswell as the spirit to do it, history backs that up sadly.

I have to say though the site as whole is totally refreshing and i have noticed the same vibe on other liverpool forums. No silly threads saying rafa's a prick, or babel is overrated or hicks is a cunt or kuyt is ugly etc - or random threads saying we need to this, play him, try this, etc etc etc - practically every thread in here has a postive vibe. - Whatever happens between now and may, right now we should enjoy he situation we are in - ****ing you kno other clubs would - if the mancs were top, or dare i say the blue ****e - we wouldn't ****ing hear the end of it - we are top on merit and we have given ourselves are ****ing great chance of really competing this year in the league.

i personally think, having got ourselves too this position that we now need to concentrate on the league and europe - we should have a big enough squad for the domestic cups.

Cant say that it ever felt like taking it for granted. Some of us were nervous as kittens all season long, even when we were clearly a big cut above everyone else. Fact was in those days, we were the ones smaller teams used to play like it was their very own cup final & every game was a nail biter until we'd won it.

We did used to gloat it a bit over the Mancs though!

On another note, I work with some very bitter blue****e. The scary thing is that recently even they have started saying things like "the red****e look the real deal this year". One even admitted to enjoying watching us on Sunday for the footballing superiority we showed against the Chavs. He also thought we'd totally outplayed them at woodison, when usually its "poxy *******s" from him.
