Kuyt is consistently average as a winger, thats the problem.
You know that’s not true. Kuyt was one of our best performers towards the end of last season when the team was playing well. Granted he’s not as effective when we play 442, and I admit for certain games I’d prefer someone who offers something different down the right, but he is capable. Against Villa Kuyt will be crucial as we need someone to keep Ashley Young quiet and at the minute Arbeloa doesn’t seem up to it.

That goal will set him up for a good season...i can feel it.

Ps, update, i can't feel it...that was something else.
He’s currently top scorer in our team.

      Oh wait, so is Carra.

I agree. And he started to drift into the box because he was no longer playing as a right winger.

Think he's striking the ball well in front of goal etc, and not every striker would have scored that goal last night, he had no real right to win that, but he made it his ball and slotted it.

Just credit where it's due is all....even if it's only for his goal, such an important one.

No, he's not a winger in a 4-4-2, I think everyone pretty much agrees with that. However, when you say "a waste of our options" Tony, care to expand on that a bit - ie. what other options at the moment we have which you feel would be significantly better?

He drove me nuts last night but he has a lot of bottle and did not stop running for 120 minutes. Love him or hate him he is an important part of the team. Ideally as a squad player.

Its on the basis that Rafa seems to believe that Kuyt is cemented on the wing and I base this on the fact that he's purchasing Riera for the left when IMO Babel is a better left option than Kuyt is on the right.

To improve the team Rafa should be addressing the weaker right side, not the potential of Babel.

Ho-hum, earlier in this lovely topic, Kuyt gets bashed for not scoring, alas he scored... still he's was terrible throughout the game, not a right winger. It's obvious that in Kuyt's case, people will just change the stick to beat him with.

If we are playing a 4-4-2 he is not the answer on right wing; however, does he complain or bleat on? No, he keeps giving 100% for the team. As part of the 4-2-3-1, playing as a right-sided forward he certainly contributes greatly to the team. I hope that we revert back to this formation, now that we have the Masch back because it is obvious we do not have the personnel for a 4-4-2.

Gerrard is anonymous against Boro. Who get MOTM? Gerrard. Why? Because he scored the winner and that’s all that counts.

Kuyt doesn’t have the greatest game, but scores the most valuable winner of the lot. Does that matter? No chance, because he’s still ****???

Neither Torres nor Gerrard should've been MOTM winners for the Sunderland and Boro games, it's the lazy way of awarding MOTM awards.

In any case, MOTM awards, when everyone (bar the keeper) played rubbish, mean very little.

The MOTM thing is irrelevant. The point was that people on this site overlooked what happened for 90% of the match and rated these as their best player purely for scoring a goal and nothing else.

Kuyt scores the winning goal but these same people dismiss that part of the game and moan about the parts of the game that they clearly ignored for Gerrard and Torres.

Maybe thats due to Gerrard, Kuyt and Babel all able to play on the right where as Babel or Benayoun seem to be the only choices for the left hand side. I can see Gerrard playing out right when he gets back from injury and we revert back to 4231 with Mascher and Lucas back.
Its a real shame it seems we need Mascher to play 4231, suppose its another reason Rafa was so desperate to get Barry.

If they did that, it was a very silly thing to do.

And with regards to Kuyt, i have no problem with people who do nothing in the game, but pop up with the winning goal - as long as they do it 20 odd times a season. Kuyt doesnt unfortunately.

The only thing that seperated the two sides was Kuyt's goal. In a game when evey Liverpool player bay Reina was ****e, Kuyt deserves the MOM award as he won us the game.

His goal would've counted for nothing if Reina hadnt pulled off two superb saves. Reina's the MOTM for me.

                                Too right.

Everyone else played ****e last night, and I include Kuyt in that. The problem is that our team have no outlets on the flanks. Yossi and Kuyt are not wingers, and it's pathetic that they are first choice wingers in a 442. I had to laugh when I saw Dirk trying to run round their LB, it was a bloody joke!

When the system is not right, and when we have limited options when on the attack, we will as a result struggle to keep the ball. At times players were trying outlandish passes simply because there were no other options on. This has been the case for all 4 games we have played this season.

As it stands we have got exactly what we needed from all 4 games. But I don't think anyone will disagree when I say it could easily have been 4 defeats with a bit of luck against us, as opposed to for us.

I just fail to see why we didn't buy players to suit the formation we did well with last year.
