An excellent performance against Arsenal playing a key part in three of the four goals as we cruised to a 4-1 victory.

Acclaimed for his performance against AC Milan in 2007. Arguably one of the best players on the Liverpool team that night, Pennant made dashing runs on the right flank, and supplied a number of good crosses in towards the strikers.

This is when he was geting time on the field. I just think some of the posts on here are unfounded and a bit ott, He has lots of talent, anyway,, time will tell, He mighte come out of this a better player.

But he is the only player we have who will go down the wings, and take a player on the outside. He only really lacks a bit of pace.

Rafa seems a bit intent on playing people out of position on the wings (like Houllier). As a result we are awful in the midfield at the moment. Its crying out for someone to run at their man on the outside.

It wont happen down the left, as everyone Rafa plays there is right footed, and likes to play central anyway.

And down the right, Rafa cant see past Kuyts big fat arse. yeah he works hard and is great against good teams, but when we play weaker sides and have a lot of possesion, he gets ffound out as he is poor with the ball at his feet.

Which brings me back to Pennant, who can dribble and cross...

Perhaps it would help if the fullbacks helped out a bit.

Does Rafa even have any tactics once we pass the halfway line? Because the players all look completely clueless once they have the ball.

Lets see some nice little triangles, and some movement would be nice.

Its late and I am tired....

              Sorry
Sorry Jermaine, you have had enough chances. Now leave quietly and accept your time is more than up

Oh yes that final. Haha. The one where we were playing a bunch of OAPs and should have won number 6. He had so much of the ball yet wasted it on every occasion.

Can't believe people think he was good in that game. If he had had a 7 out of 10 game we would have won the final. Had acres of time, space and possession yet wasted every single chance that came his way.

                  7.5m......what a waste of money

Keep Kuyt on the wing for now, but play El Zhar against the lesser teams to see how he copes. Impressed me so far this season.

No. Was and will never be good enough. I don't think anybody was happy when we bought him.

                          Thought it was £4.5

And Kuyt was the guy up front that did didly squat against a weak looking team. He was our best player. Our only attacking player who looked dangerous, until Crouch came on.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

Don't have a go at Kuyt to protect Pennant mate. The fact is Pennant was MOM and Kuyt scored our only goal that night. It's the pity our "star" players didn't really turn up and Rafa decided not to introduce Crouch until it was too late - the one player the Italians did not want to play against.

No, I agree. Its down to Rafa to pick a team to cause the other side trouble. But he wanted to play it safe with Kuyt, knowing that he would get back and defend, at the expense of causing the opposition defence any kind of problem.

But this doesnt change the fact that Penannt caused them problems.

I remember the same arguments going against Milan Baros. But the at same time, he to also caused opposition defenders problems when he ran at them.

Pennant does not have anywhere near the pace to really "roast" a fullback, but this is where the overlapping fullback comes into play.... or not.

Wingers should strike up a partnership with their fullback, in the same way that two strikers and two centre backs do. This is one thinh that has been missing from Rafas style of play. I mean, Beckham when he played for the Mancscum had no pace or any real dribbling skill, but he ha a wicked cross. If he played for our team, he would never get a chance to get that cross in. Whereas his sucess for ManUre was down the Gary ****in' Neville helping to create that space for him.

Pennant (or whoever we sign to replace him), Babel or whoever plays wide will all have to do it on their own.
