I really think Riera will play instead of Fabio. It's going to be a good thing imo.

Fernando Torres likely to be fit to face Man United
Sep 9 2008 by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post

FERNANDO TORRES is winning his battle to be fit for Liverpool’s showdown with Manchester United on Saturday.

The Spanish striker was initially ruled out for “between two and three weeks” after suffering a hamstring tear during the goalless draw against Aston Villa nine days ago.

It meant Torres was instantly ruled out of the visit of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, as well as missing Spain’s World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Armenia.

But Liverpool’s medical staff have been encouraged by the speed at which Torres has responded to treatment on the injury.

And now the Anfield outfit are hopeful their club record signing will take to the field against the champions at the weekend.

The news will be a major boost to Rafael Benitez, who is already resigned to being without skipper Steven Gerrard for the crunch fixture.

Gerrard is recovering from two groin operations but is hopeful of being available for the Champions League clash in Marseille on Tuesday.

I thought the only time we did beat them in the FA Cup match, they struggled against both Nando and Crouch. Maybe it was the physical presence or both defenders having to mark players therefore it would be the full backs having to cover. Maybe its some food for thought with Torres looking closer to playing United at the weekend.

even if this is true it shouldt have been announced - should just try and spring it on them on the day
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

I think you might be close actually.

I think Babel might get one off the bench as MU chase a lost cause.

I thought Aurelio was our only good player on the park last time we played them

Not worthy of its own thread so I'll ask in here...

Who's the ref for Saturday? Anyone know?

                      Here goes....

                      ................................reina............. .......................

                      ...........skrtel............carragher..........ag ger..............

                      pennant.........masherano.........alonso.......... ..dossena..

                      ..............keane............................... riera...................

                      ..................................kuyt............ ..........................

initially i said i wouldnt start with riera but with gerrard not being in the right frame of mind to play and torres looking unlikely after his hamstring I think we have to start him.

I think three centre backs would be a good idea because it will give us more protection against their offense and playing skrtel right of the trio means that he can look for the overlapping and in-behind runs of evra who has become such an important source of penetration for united.

I would play pennant on the right in front of arbeloa because he WILL give us width on the right and put in some crosses for the forward line.

My only concern is the lack of pace up-front which means united will be able to push their back line up by 10 yards to put more pressure on the ball when we're in posession. Keane and kuyt will have to constantly rotate to combat this to some extent.

I would probably bring on babel up front later in the game as his pace and power will give united something different to think about.

Evra has to much for pennant in my opinion reckon he would own him.

I think Gerrard will play and have thought so since reading that he states that he should be okay for the Marseilles game which is only 3 days later!!! Oh, and Torres will play too!!!

Yeah but do you remember when Torres played against Arsenal at Anfield in the league last season? Just coming back from injury, he clearly wasnt fit and was anonymous.

Howard Webb is the ref, linesmen are D Cann and P Sharp, fourth official is Martin Atkinson.

Webb was the ref when we beat them in the FA cup game in 2006, good sign?
