    Hyypia feels mislead

Hyypia speaks out to the finish FA (my translation from a translation - so might be room for slight errors, as I don't know any finish and can't read the original source myself)

"The club has timed it perfectly. They diden't wan't me to move to another club, so they choose to bring me the news just as the transfer window shut. The club has rejected a lot of transferbids, so that might indicate I still am a part of Liverpools plans. I don't know if I had changed clubs, if I knew this before the end of the transfer-window." Says a dissapointed hyypia to the finish FA's website.

I can understand he feels disappointed about this, and he proberly felt he had a more important role this season.

Don't like hearing any kind of dissatisfaction from the legend that is Hyypia; I do hope we're being up front and honest with him.

Rafa had planned on Alonso going and Barry in ergo Hyypia would be in. For some reason we could not get the desired fee for Alonso (still baffles me!) and the deal was not done.

Rafa makes a tough decision and Sami is still here and he will get on with it. Cos he's Sami.

            Is the right answer.

I love Sami BTW. I reckon his testimonial will be another example of the "Liverpool Way".

It better be and it should be.

I can understand why he's gutted, but I hope this isn't true, as it sounds as though if he doesn't play much he could leave in the transfer window in January, and this would be an awful way to bring the curtain down on his Liverpool career
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Sami Hyypia failed to hide his disappointment after being left out of Liverpool’s 25-man Champions League squad.

New rules mean that each side in the competition’s group stages must include at least eight ‘home-grown’ players.

Rafa Benitez has therefore been forced to exclude one of his key elder statesmen in Hyypia whilst including lesser heralded names such as Jay Spearing and Stephen Darby.

"The manager's decision to leave me out of the squad is a big disappointment for me," Hyypia told the Liverpool Echo. "I understand it's partly because of the Uefa regulations, but despite that, the news came as a surprise to me and a shock too.

"But the club had a 'perfect' timing for this: they didn't want me to move elsewhere, so that's why I was told the news of having been left out, just after the transfer window had closed.

"The club went public to say there had been offers for me, but turned them down. So perhaps that means I am still part of the plans for this season.

"I don't know if I would have wanted to move on, had I heard the news about the squad when the window was still open."

The Uefa regulations state that four of the eight ‘homegrown’ players must be produced by an English academy – Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard, Spearing and Darby – whilst four must come from that particular academy – Robbie Keane, Jermaine Pennant, Steven Irwin and Martin Kelly in Liverpool's case.

Oh the man is a midfield maestro

that is bad man management and a lack of respect for sami

imo it cant be defended but i expect to get ****ed for saying so

i am baffled by how rafa can do things like this - and not think it important to tella very loyal player who many see as having a future at lfc in a coaching role

It saddens me that Sami is not included in the squad. But due to the Eufa rules we will see a lot more of this in the future. The rules seem to be a bit unfair as well, especially when Sami has been with the club as a regular player for 9 years.

I'm sure Sarb, Radish and Busterbloodvessel(Rage) will get some mileage out of this thread. As without doubt Rafa is fully responsible for the Eufa rules.

Interesting that he says that if he'd been told sooner that the offers from other clubs would have interested him....did any of these other clubs (i can only think of Stoke) offer European football as well??

                              Big Sami - legend.

                              I am disappointed for him.

We will know whether it was the correct decision later in the season.
