england have one genuine world class player in an attacking sense and that's gerrard. If they cant build a team around him then f*ck them.

Its pitiful watching england against some third rate team and for 60 odd minutes we looked devoid of ideas and creativity.

Barry and hargreaves should play in midfield and gerrard should be given a free role just behind a striker (and that's not rooney).

Rooney cant get a game for man u so why all of a sudden should he be an automatic choice for england ? He's fat and he's got no positional sense.

Dont get me wrong I like rooney and he could have been a much better player than what he turned out to be(there's still time yet) but he hasnt gone on to achieve what everyone thought he would and even man u fans dont think he is a world class player.

Theo walcott - the new michael owen - what's wrong with the old one ? He will still score goals and at some stage im sure he will get his place back.

If someone epitomises england its walcott - **** on quality with occasional flashes of brilliance.

If Liverpool played england i think we'd stuff them because they are ****. And yes Gerrard would be playing for us.

Sorry, we cant expect one of the best midfielders in the world to give up playing for his country because he has been dropped.

Brilliant news, the Premier Leagues best player getting dropped by his country to leave him fresh and motivated for our title challenge.
Maybe the gods are smiling on us, here's hoping he's left out and Eng er land win so Capello doesn't change the team.

He will really be fired up for our games then, and he avoids getting injured. By all means let Lampard play!

Well he hasn't been very good for England recently so it's fair enough. And it's good for us.

I'm only looking at the positives of this news, ignoring the patent insanity that Reece alludes to of Gerrard being dropped to accommodate a clearly inferior player.

A Steven Gerrard rested with no chance of picking up injury in a difficult away game where I wouldn't be surprised if the home team's tactics in part involve kicking England's pampered stars all over the park can be no bad thing IMO. Plus a Gerrard with wounded professional pride could be a dangerous beast.

We'll reap the benefits of this decision. I'm beginning to like Capello.

It's like Sky were showing the stats of the two players pass completion rate, of which Lampard had the higher. But it's a false statistic because Gerrard is trying difficult passes in an attempt to open the defence up, whereas Lampard as I said earlier is playing a simple 2 yard pass.
I honestly can't believe a manager would prefer Lampard in their team over Gerrard.
While they were both **** in that England match I think people on here are very unfair on Lampard. He is a very good picker of a pass he is just more possession orientated than Gerrard - which considering the limited team building time at international level is a real asset. Currently on form and fit into the setup Capello is trying to build Gerrard has to be left out or played on the right. Having selected limited options on the left and built up the role of Walcott I think the option for Capello will be to bench him.

I think the fact that Capello was willing to remodel a team setup to accommodate him shows how much he wants Gerrard in the team. However I think sometimes you have to accept that the best players don't blend into the best team.

Elvoz, you can't on one thread claim to not care about England and then put a glum face next to the title of a thread about Gerrard getting dropped for England.

Looking at some stats as I usually am it showed Lampard looks more towards the left (Ashley Cole) for passes compared to Gerrard who looks more direct. I think thats where the pass completion percentages have been totaled up by Lampard. I didn't watch the game to make an assumption but the general belief amongst some was that Gerrard was coming too deep to collect the ball when he should have been stuck to Heskey as much as possible. Anyhoo, this will allow Gerrard to have a well needed rest and get ready and fighting for tricky Wigan.

I reckon any other country would build the whole team around your best player, which Gerrard clearly is going forward.

For years we've tried to squash Lampard and Gerrard into the same 99% of the time to the detriment of Gerrard as Lampard can play only one way.

I believe a 4231 would work for England and would work for Gerrard giving the team more chance to win something.
